Am I the only one who doesn't get Twilight?

Love the film ( Who wouldn't love Robert Pattinson) but I've now read Twilight and New Moon and it's all right but I don't understand the hysteria?

Will I get it if I persevere with eclipse?

OP posts:
JesusChristOtterStar · 08/11/2009 20:58

glad to see this
read the film reviews on amazon and it sounded AWFUL truly 'teen' and i dont 'do' teen stuff

Mcdreamy · 08/11/2009 20:58

Starting it tonight! Looking forward to it. Haven't seen the film......yet!

Jacksmama · 09/11/2009 03:29

I've had wine now

And am on page 155 of 367 of "Eclipse". It's Not Good.

But - apparently what's different about Bella is that she smells bad. To both Edward and Jacob.

GunpowderTreasonAndDragons · 09/11/2009 07:59

Anyone want a complete set of the books?

[hopeful]

Cicatrice · 09/11/2009 09:13

Bella is no sort of heroine at all. She's like Fanny Price without the dynamism and sense of humour.

I couldn't read them and I luuurve a good, or even adequate bit of vampire fiction.

Slubberdegullion · 09/11/2009 09:20

lolol Gunpowder. You are absolutely right. Bella is forever forgetting her coat, that and putting her hair down.

No wonder the poor lass is forever falling over. I would be equally malco if I had to keep remembering my coat and who was hot, who was cold and what colour truck I drove.

I think we should cut her some slack.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 09/11/2009 09:31

He's not just COLD he's also HARD as well, like rock/marble/stone/cheese.

And Bella's truck is SLOW.

Just on case you misses it.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 09/11/2009 09:33

I am just starting eclipse, been a bit slow in the brain department and reading something cheesy and shit seems to cheer me up.

Would be interested in some decent vampire fiction though, if there are any recommendations.

Am after the final book, can't remember what it's called, The Worst One? Have 1 and 2 going spare if anyone wants them?

MrsChemist · 09/11/2009 09:41

Doesn't anyone else wonder why Edward isn't room temperature?

MrsChemist · 09/11/2009 09:45

Also, I think the second one is the best because Edward is hardly in it and Bella is slightly more interesting when she's wallowing in misery.
Much better than cloying lovey-doveyness.

Chickenshavenolips · 09/11/2009 09:52

I keep hoping that one of the supernatural people will eat Bella and then do something more interesting.

She's in it to the end, isn't she?

GunpowderTreasonAndDragons · 09/11/2009 10:10

Hot and hard would be better.

No, she's not in it til the end - Bella accidentally falls off the top of the mountain part way through book 2 and freezes to death with her arse in the air.

Jacksmama · 09/11/2009 16:57

Nobody seems to want the books Gunpowder... they seem to be in the category of "I wouldn't have them as a gift"

Got only a few more pages into Eclipse. Gah. It really is the most incredible shit.
My gf who is dragging me to the movie rang last night to ask how far I was with the book... she may have caught on that I think it's awful and so is checking in to make sure I keep reading ... I will have to think of some way to get back at her. She had a horrifying idea when I spoke with her last night: they sell "Team Edward" T-shirts here, as well as black tees with silver writing on them saying "I love boys who sparkle" [vomit emoticon]. She think we should all buy one and wear them to New Moon. I told her absolutely not and she laughed. Then I claimed I was on a tight budget so couldn't afford to buy one. She laughed again and I suspect she may buy me one just to add to the torture. GAHHHH!!!!

Slubberdegullion · 09/11/2009 17:06

Oh no Jacksmama, this is terrible (muriel). You cannot have a t-shirt. no no no.

Why is she making you read book 3 when you are going to the cinema to see book 2? Confused

Have you seen Twilight the movie? It's OK you know. Not at all great obviously but not dreadful. They do some running around and shit.

Jacksmama · 09/11/2009 19:45

(muriel)??? Confused

Why is she making me read all the books? Because she is a mean evil cow who obviously cares nothing about my sanity !!!

No, it's because I told her I was seriously unimpressed by the first one. She said, "read the second, it gets better, you have to anyway or the movie won't make sense ". Then when I dissed the second book, she said, "oh, don't be like that, they're ok, you have to read the entire series to fully appreciate them". And since then she has been bugging me (in a funny way, though) about how far I've gotten. I am speedreading through them just to get it over with so I can tell her I failed to be impressed by the entire series.

I have a sneaky feeling she will be showing up with a T-shirt for me.

If I offer it for free here on MN do you all think there will be any takers?

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2009 11:18

Oh yes there will absolutely be takers here on mn.

Sorry about the muriel thing. Cannot say the word terrible (muriel) without adding muriel to the end of it. It's a rl and on line tic. Unless something IS really terrible (muriel) then I can hold myself back.

The possibilty of being forced to wear a twilight t-shirt is not quite terrible (muriel) enough to hold back the muriel.

iyswim.

I'd give up up and lie that you have read them. You know what happens in the end. LOLOL that you won't understand the movie if you haven't read the book, yes because they are so full of complex plot twists and shedloads of subcharacters that are not defined by their temperature.

I was thrilled to find today in my Emprire magazine that you can get a Hot, Cold & Clumsy New Moon duvet cover. Sadly it is only for a single bed

Jacksmama · 10/11/2009 14:52

Can you imagine the entire cast of Twilight/ New Moon spread over your kind-size bed??? I wonder if one side would be colder than the other...

Now who was it, a few posts ago, who was wondering why Edwwwward isn't room-temperature?
I was pondering that in my (lovely hot) shower. And I think it's because, when Jacob first tells Bella the vampire legends, "The Lukewarm Ones" doesn't sound nearly as impressive.

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2009 21:54

lol. Indeed, doesn't sound menacing at all. Marble is kind of cold all the time though, as is granite, corian is not though [knows her worktops].

I wonder why that is?

Oh and how do you know I sleep in a king size bed
[paranoid]

ImaburningHEIFERgy · 10/11/2009 22:16

Well. I actually enjoyed reading them. Held off for ages as it didn't appeal. Got given the 1st book, read and enjoyed. Went out and bought 2 and 3 (2 for 1) and again read straight after the other and enjoyed.

And debating whether to spend the money on a hardback (goes against the grain when I know it will be in paperback eventually). I know I shouldn't pay for hb but I don't think I can actually wait.

Sad I may be, intellectual I never claimed to be, enjoying reading them I am.

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2009 22:25

Heifer you went all yoda at the end there

ImaburningHEIFERgy · 10/11/2009 22:27

I noticed when I read it through before clicking! and did have a chuckle to myself as I watched Star Wars yesterday

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2009 22:29

I tried (and failed) to record episode 3 on saturday.

Well gutted I was.

ImaburningHEIFERgy · 10/11/2009 22:39

It was the first time I have seen it, so well chuffed I was

In fact, he would be warmer than room temperature, because he moves so fast the kinetic energy released would warm him a few degrees.
So instead of Bella says "your hands are ice cold" or some other inane shite, she should say "your hands are quite chilly, but as you have been running, your joints are quite warm, especially your knees. That must be the heat created by the kinetic energy of you running so fast. Isn't basic physics fun!"

My friend says you can buy Edward Cullen vibrators that you put in the fridge, so they are cold.
I am too embarrassed to actually google "Edward Cullen Vibrator" to check whether she is talking bollocks or not.
