Next - the luminous life of Lilly Aphrodite, beatrice colin. For book club.

Also have Becoming Queen, Kate Williams, Sea of poppies, Amitav Ghosh and the new Phillipa Gregory on my imminently to be rad pile.

Oh I love Amelia Peabody!

I have nearly finished this Memoirs Of A Master Forger which I'm really enjoying.

Next I will be reading this The Knife Of Never Letting Go

antalya · 13/04/2009 20:17

Lady Audley's Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon. A combination of detective novel, psychological thriller and history of upper class nineteenth century life. Good, but has to be taken slowly.

TheProvincialLady · 13/04/2009 20:24

Oh that's another of my favourites Antalya. I love sensation nobels.

antalya · 13/04/2009 20:34

We could recommend it to the nob on the other thread who thinks women can't write, hehe!

TheProvincialLady · 13/04/2009 20:36

Oh I can think of a few other things I'd recommend for him(but they wouldn't be so much for reading as for stuffing up his..)

yappybluedog · 13/04/2009 21:18

just finished 'The Other Hand' Chris Cleave

nearly finished re-reading 'Catcher In The Rye'

megcleary · 13/04/2009 21:22

am just in the throes of finishing my dissertation so very excited at the thought of real books not text books!!

I am keen on getting "In defence of America" by Bronwyn Maddox

mumonthenet · 13/04/2009 21:27

just finished Barack Obama's Dreams from my Father. Interesting stuff.

About to start Kate Grenville's The Idea of Perfection.

Don't think I can stand another Jodi Picoult...clever writer but a bit repetitive, non?

pollywobbledoodle · 13/04/2009 21:49

the idea of perfection is a lovely warm book

have just finished 20 fragments of a ravenous youth depressing but very readable...took an evening

before that chart throb...ben eltons satire on x factor style shows...very cynical and funny...you'll never look at those shows in the same way

next big over easy by jasper fforde

twinmam · 13/04/2009 22:00

I always think Jodi Picoult has really good ideas for books (if a bit gimmicky) but doesn't write them especially well. I went to hear her speak once though and she seemed really lovely Have just finished Almost a Crime by Penny Vincenzi. She is one of my secret guilty pleasures and her books were made for devouring. Am not sure what to read next as have a pile of books under the bed but it might just be the Idea of Perfection.

Mumcentreplus · 13/04/2009 22:11

Current- Memoirs of a Geisha...Kite Runner waiting in the wings...recently read Another Woman by Penny V..really want to get Awakening by L.A Banks ..and v interested in The 19th Wife...

moondog · 14/04/2009 06:21

Provincial it was recommended by another MNer as we were discussing the truly gripping [and superbly written] Under the banner of heaven by John Kirkhauer that I had just read about fundamentalist Mormons.

Gripping stuff.I barely exchanged a word with anyone while I was reading it.

Kate Atkinson used to be fantastic {Museum et al}. Really gonie off the boil now though.

Cosmosis · 14/04/2009 16:45

MrsMcCluskey, When Will There Be Good News? just finished it, and enjoyed it.
