Tall, Dark and Handsome Leading Men - WANTED!

I'm really in the mood for reading something with a dashing and sexy leading man in it, any suggestions?

From books I've read the ones that spring to mind are:

  • Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (obviously!)
  • Rett Butler in Gone With The Wind
  • George Emerson in A Room With A View
  • Mark Darcy in Briget Jones' Diary
  • Luke Costello in Rachel's Holiday
  • Morello in the Stephanie Plum series

I don't mind what sort of book it is, chick-lit would be fine, would prefer not a classic at the mo, but am open to all suggestions!

I would say it has to be either "Jane Eyre" or "The Dark Tower" series - Mr Rochester and Roland of Gilead - both dark and sexy. Or Aragorn.

MiaWallace · 04/10/2008 19:03

I'm currently falling in love with Edward Cullen (Twilight). He is way too young for me, but I justify it because he has been 17 for a very long time.

strawberrycornetto · 04/10/2008 19:44

I'll second Edward Cullen, yummy, makes me wish I was 17 again

sasamax · 04/10/2008 22:24

You don't fancy Heathcliff I take it...?

Sidge · 04/10/2008 22:27

Have you read any Lee Child?

Reacher (his main man) rocks

slayerette · 04/10/2008 22:33

How are you with the Regency period? You can get lost in Georgette Heyer for a long time and she has some gorgeous heroes. I would try Frederica, Regency Buck, Venetia to start with but there are lots...

bran · 04/10/2008 22:34

God yes, I fancy the pants off Reacher. But there isn't much romantic action in the books.

Welcome to Temptation, Faking It and Manhunting by Jennifer Crusie have the men that you are looking for IMO. If you want really, really romantic fiction then the Mackenzie series by Linda Howard have proper dashing, if rather macho, men in them (Mackenzie's Mountain, Mackenzie's Mission, Mackenzie's Honour and A Game of Chance, possibly one or two more as well).

slayerette · 04/10/2008 22:34

And you prefer Morelli to Ranger??

turquoise · 04/10/2008 22:34

Not tall dark and handsome, but you will fall in love with him - Jamie Fraser in the Diana Gabaldon Outlander series. You will, you will - because Rhett, Morelli, and Darcy are three of my top leading men, and Jamie beats the pants off all them.

Alternatively try Ross Poldark in Winston Graham's Poldark series - poss my number one.

wheresthehamster · 04/10/2008 22:35

Oooh hands off! Jack Reacher is MINE

slayerette · 04/10/2008 22:35

Love Luke Costello by the way. The Real Men

turquoise · 04/10/2008 22:39

Seriously, give it a whirl - I was recommended it when I was desolate at finishing the Plum series (it's completely different - but enthralling).
Jamie. He is tall and handsome, just ginger not dark.

bran · 04/10/2008 22:39

I agree with slayerette by the way, Ranger is much more thrilling than Morelli (although, doesn't he have a ponytail, which I do find a little off-putting?).

slayerette · 04/10/2008 22:41

Can't remember about the ponytail - I'm too busy trying to imagine what the shower gel smells like that drives Stephanie so wild!

Need to get DH some

bran · 04/10/2008 22:43

I reckon it has a woody scent, I always like that on a man, cedar perhaps.

sasamax · 04/10/2008 22:44

Luke Costello - the real men with their shared leather trousers LOL

Sidge · 04/10/2008 22:46

Doesn't Ranger use Bvlgari?

I'm sure I remember her mentioning it when she used his shower that time she stayed in his flat.

(Yes I know they're not real but I get rather involved with characters in my books)

Oh, and wheresthehamster I'm sorry but Reacher is mine, all mine. I'll fight you for him

bran · 04/10/2008 22:48

I think you'll find I baggsied Reacher first Sidge.

bran · 04/10/2008 22:50

Do you remember which Bvlgari it was?

slayerette · 04/10/2008 22:53

OK - going to have to read some Lee Child now...

There must be loads of sexy, hard as nails detective types in fiction - why can't I think of any??

Sidge · 04/10/2008 22:56

Join the queue bran - line up behind me there's a good girl

Have just looked on JEs website and look what I found!!

Does Bulgari shower gel really exist, what type does he use and where can I find it?
Yes it really exists. He uses Green Tea and you should be able to find it in any department store's (Macys, Nordstrom, Bloomies, etc.) fragrance section. Green Tea is a unisex shower gel.

slayerette · 04/10/2008 23:05

OMG sidge!

At last I know what DH will be getting in his stocking this Xmas!

Sidge · 04/10/2008 23:11

It's pretty spensive slayerette, but I'm sure your DH will appreciate the expense

I've been madly Googling it too...

slayerette · 04/10/2008 23:15

It has to be done really...

I'll start saving. Although it'll probably now sell out to crazed MNetters hoping their DH will step into the shower as DH and step out as Ranger in a Clark-Kent-in-the-phonebooth kind of way

Sidge · 04/10/2008 23:21

Now look what the OP has done. I started by trying to be helpful and offer up the gorgeous Reacher as my uber-hero offering.

Now I'm getting all unnecessary thinking of a multi-way shower experience with me, Reacher, Morelli, Ranger, Luke Costello and a bottle of Bvlgari shower gel...

DH is away and my imagination is working overtime
