I need an easy, uplifting book- please help

I am exhausted and am taking myself off for a few days in a week or two. I need a well written, page turner with no cancer, work conflict or sadness.

please help me find one

Isn’t it just? Think it was their only book.

I like the Miss Read books, based on a school teacher's memories set in the 1950s - But I'm 70 so maybe not the appeal to someone younger.

Return to the past where life was simpler would be my best advice so anything historical from the ever wonderful Adrian Mole to something like The Making of Marchioness which always makes me laugh.
