Released September 2025!!

Rokeby would definitely be a free mason! I can imagine they like having a few celebs at the lodge. If he can get his head around doing the Latin part of the induction , he would be a shoo in.

Apologies for interrupting the flow but can anyone advise?

I’m stuck on the Ink Black Heart and have had to put it down for a few weeks as all those text messages and usernames are making my head explode and I can’t remember who said what.

Can I move onto the next book without finishing this one, or will I miss important continuity issues?
Thanks.

Skip it or skip the chat bits. If you're worried about missing out on any long term plot lines you could watch the TV series on BBC iplayer. Think they condensed this book down to only three episodes. IBH is my least favourite of the series so far.

anyone get a ghostly sense of JKR peering over our shoulders, skimming through the thread and laughing at us???

the80sweregreat · 04/08/2025 13:42

I can imagine that JKR is having at giggle at our speculations! Strike must have upset a lot of people doing his job in the army so could be anyone he doesn’t want to see again !

How does taking the case give him the opportunity to get closer to Robin? Is it simply that she wanted to take it and he didn't, so now they have to work on it together?

Or does it have some personal meaning for her? But how would that fit in with a connection to Strike's past? 🤔

the80sweregreat · 04/08/2025 14:30

Maybe Strike takes it on reluctantly, but have to get Robin and the others involved a lot more when it’s this person he doesn’t want to see! Maybe Robin will end up meeting Switch or Rokeby .. he’d be the ultimate host for her , can you imagine ? Flirting , trying to get her to tell him about Strike, generally being a bit of a tool. Lol
( which is all probably rubbish, but I like speculating )

SolidarityCone · 04/08/2025 16:52

@PluckyChancer just read the main body text, you just won’t be able to solve it yourself but it works just as well as a text by skipping them.

RubieChewsDay · 04/08/2025 12:48

@PluckyChancer you could try the audio book perhaps? It's probably available through the library app or you could sign up to an audible free trial?

The audible version is unintelligible unfortunately. I gave up and just read a synopsis. Very disappointing ☹️

Lins77 · 04/08/2025 21:10

Just started Lethal White in my Great Pre-Hallmarked Man Reread.

So, who would we gave playing Johnny R? I'd quite like Antony Head.(not the only one on here Grin) or a real ex rock star. Someone about 70 maybe? So a late 70s early 80s star.

People in Strike’s past. Maybe Charlotte’s parents or relatives or people from his Army days ?

Maybe Charlotte's vile husband? Something to do with the kids and Strike feels a misplaced sense of loyalty to help them?

I'd say Rufus Sewell, but he might be a bit young.

Anthony Head though 😍

I've preordered the book & the audio book!

Can't wait.

Do you have any predictions?
I think Ted will move in with Pat & Dennis & Dennis will be his carer (random plot twist).

I wonder if we will have a partner snog in The Hallmark Man? I'm thinking yes!

Loving Ted moving in with Pat and Dennis, that would be a great storyline.

mylovedoesitgood · 04/08/2025 22:07

I think either Ian McShane or Charles Dance would be good as Jonny Rokeby.

the80sweregreat · 04/08/2025 22:10

Ian Mc Shane would make a great Rokeby.

the80sweregreat · 04/08/2025 22:11

I think that Ted will end up in a care home close to Lucy.

It is a bit hard going on a first listen, it's a shame as IBH is a great book but so much more enjoyable on a second read, which of course doesn't help if you can't get past the first one.

drspouse · 04/08/2025 22:24

Ok, so it looks like I'll have a lot of work on the week it's released so I can't book AL though maybe one day as DD starts secondary school.
But the following week I'll be on lots of long train journeys for work so it's settled - I'll be preordering the Kindle version!

It is very possible that Jago Ross could be a freemason, so that is a possible link.

I do wonder though if it's going to someone we've met in passing but not had too much detail on, I feel like JKR's reveal of Strike's past is like peeling back the layers of an onion and we only get one layer per book. I think the freemason link points to Rokeby, although I really thought we were going to be meeting Switch in this book.

Only 4 weeks until we find out for sure though, I can't wait to find out who's right 😊

the80sweregreat · 06/08/2025 07:12

Anyone watch ‘ the Jesus army’ documentary on bbc 2 ? It was so similar to the plot of the Running Grave. Those poor people, especially the ones who were born in the ‘ communities’.
So sad hearing about real victims of this cult.

the80sweregreat · 06/08/2025 08:47

If I had to deal with Jago Ross in any capacity I’d definitely say no, but maybe they don’t find out it’s anything to do with him until it’s too late!
He would be a Mason though , but then so many that Strike has dealt with and from his past probably are .

Well, Mick Jagger if he were younger. He's become a pillar of society.

Rufus Sewell or Antony Head are good suggestions, too.

the80sweregreat · 06/08/2025 11:24

I remember Mick Jagger going to a do at lords cricket ground once looking smart in a tie , haircut etc. it was on the news!
I always see him when I read the books.
