I haven’t received any books this Christmas. What have you received? My DC might need some hints for my birthday.

@itsgettingweird it was the night before Xmas that got me hooked on his too!

He's such a good writer of easy read crime! I couldn't stop reading because every time I thought I'd worked it out there was another curve ball!

May start book 1 today!

I like historical novels, also contemporary, but not girly or too whimsical, love some African writers (unfamiliar settings for me, vibrant sort of writing), a bit of crime (like Gianrico Carofiglio), a bit of biography. I’m not that much into fantasy, but will read some Sci-fi.

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain Winters in the World - A Journey Through the Anglo Saxon Year by Eleanor Parker.
I got this for my birthday and loved it. Have you got Marc Morris, The Anglo-Saxons? That’s a great read too.

I have. I have loved the Anglo Saxons since primary when we learned about Alfred burning the cakes (yes, I know he didn't and it was propaganda 😏). The Cat Jarman someone received looks like an early pick for 2024, as well. Loved her River Kings.

Thomas Williams is another good author in that period.

Gardeners Almanac
The Twilight Garden; Sara Nisha Adams
Harlan Coben; I will find you

Only one novel this year as my TBR pile is huge. A surprise from DH .. he did well to find something I haven’t read.
Other books were as requested as I’ve been getting back into knitting this winter, and fancied having a go at Sashiko to patch the holes in my jeans.

Blimey I promise there's no sensitive content here. It's a photo of four books!

happyinherts · 26/12/2023 16:46

Received Michael Caine: Deadly Game

Anyone else received it or read it?

highlandcoo · 26/12/2023 16:48

And one of them is the Vogue Book of Knitting. Can you imagine anything less controversial?
The edit function won't let me remove the photo. I will try to report.

highlandcoo · 26/12/2023 17:19

Sorted!

RenoDakota · 26/12/2023 19:01

A couple of posters mentioned Fourth Wing and its sequel. I had a look in WH Smith. They are massive. I was leafing through them, I saw a mention of at least one dragon. Is this more of a Young Adult book in the Harry Potter style?

FlorencenotRatchet · 27/12/2023 19:19
