I haven’t received any books this Christmas. What have you received? My DC might need some hints for my birthday.

A Waterstones gift card. Can't wait to spend hours browsing & struggling to decide.
I treated myself to Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry to read over Christmas but need to finish The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels first.

I got the Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels! Also Poor Things by Alistair grey

I didn’t get a book but got a sort of subscription to a bookshop in Bath that if you tell them what you like they choose some for you, not done it yet.

Day before Christmas I bought myself Come back in September by Darryl Pinckney which is about Prof Elizabeth Hardwick and Cleopatra’s Daughter. Started the first and it’s quite good so far. Bit nuts re the people she mixed with though!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/12/2023 17:48

I was tempted by The Winter Spirits too but got the other ones I posted about.

A late gift of Normal Women by Phillips Gregory! I'm really excited about it.

ginsparkles · 25/12/2023 17:54

The Killer in the Snow by Alex Pine ....

This is after discovering one of his books in my book advent calendar and loving it!

VittysCardigan · 25/12/2023 20:03

@mrstea301 i'm enjoying it so far. I loved her first book but couldn't finish her second.

Sundaefraise · 25/12/2023 20:10

I’ve had ‘tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow’ and the first Strike book - ‘A cuckoo’s calling’. The second partly following a mumsnet thread about the latest in the series - hoping mumsnet has not let me down with this recommendation 😁

I just read The night before Xmas.

Then got the other 3 for Christmas as loved it.

Also got a Lisa Jewell book.

That should keep me going for a few weeks!

Signed John robb..the history of goth.

Poblano · 25/12/2023 21:16

Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer by Ali Smith. I've read them before from the library but dropped some heavy hints to the DC that I'd like copies to keep 😁

educatingrati · 25/12/2023 21:52

Book token so I can buy my own, as I'm notoriously difficult to buy for when it comes to literature!

Popetthetreehugger · 25/12/2023 21:57

🤦‍♀️ two identical monty don gardening books and 3 gardening almanacs 🤣

FortunataTagnips · 25/12/2023 22:00

@theotherfossilsister What’s the 69 Love Songs book, please?

PinkMimosa · 25/12/2023 22:05

I got a charity shop copy of A Daughter's Secret by Maggie Hope. Looks like the sort of thing my gran would have read. But ds9 chose and paid for it himself so I'll definitely read it.

Such an absolutely lovely thing for him to do. He sounds like a sweetie Wink

Showercurtainofdoom · 25/12/2023 22:15

Children of Gods and Fighting Men, by Shauna Lawless. Excited!

MerryChristmas23 · 25/12/2023 22:15

I received Scream for us by Molly Doyle. It comes with a content warning and I definitely can't take it to work to read on breaks. My partner looked at a few pages and was mortified

BettyBakesCakes · 25/12/2023 22:44

Loyalty by martina Cole. I haven't read one of hers before so hope it's good.

Mothership4two · 26/12/2023 00:54
