I haven’t received any books this Christmas. What have you received? My DC might need some hints for my birthday.

VittysCardigan · 25/12/2023 12:57

A Waterstones gift card. Can't wait to spend hours browsing & struggling to decide.
I treated myself to Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry to read over Christmas but need to finish The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels first.

Unruly - David Mitchell and The Emporers Babe - Bernadine Evaristo. And my Daughter got Britney so will borrow that when she's done.

Peridot1 · 25/12/2023 13:04

DS got me two books I’d read before unfortunately. One of which he bought me last year! So he will take them back this week and I’ll get something else. He also got me Matthew Perry’s autobiography which was a nice surprise.

DH got me two gardening books. A bit of a hint there! He’d like me to be more involved in the garden.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 25/12/2023 13:05

The Gran Tour by Ben Aitken and Winters in the World - A Journey Through the Anglo Saxon Year by Eleanor Parker. Meeting DB for lunch later in the week and he'll be handing over Robert Harris's latest and Bill Bryson's Shakespeare -The World as a Stage

Ordinary Women by Philippa Gregory. It’s a huge sweeping history of ordinary women through the ages.

Headunderthecovers · 25/12/2023 13:30

Cecily - War of the Roses from a female perspective. Impressed with the dc choice.

There's a podcast on Not Just the Tudors about the book if you want a teaser

Very addictive! I'm waiting for Crescent City 3 at the end of this month

User562377 · 25/12/2023 13:39

I got a charity shop copy of A Daughter's Secret by Maggie Hope. Looks like the sort of thing my gran would have read. But ds9 chose and paid for it himself so I'll definitely read it.

Dh bought me Cat Lady by Dawn O'Porter which I've already read.

Disappointing so far.

I've got high hopes for swapping presents with my cousin later. She knows my taste in books much better.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 25/12/2023 13:39

Wow! How lovely 😍

OhamIreally · 25/12/2023 13:50

Cold comfort farm from DD which I had seen recommended on here. Making it So by Patrick Stewart which was a gift to myself and The School for Good Mothers from a good friend. I haven't heard of it but she seldom steers me wrong so I'm looking forward to it

Whereisthecatks · 25/12/2023 13:53

Why is this Question by Paul Anthony Jones. Book about language.

Cherrypi · 25/12/2023 13:55

The Christmas Appeal, Good Material by Dolly Alderton, Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders and Dread Wood by Jennifer Killick. The last one of which was particularly special as my son was meant to choose a book for himself that the school would buy him as a present but he picked one for me instead. Think we'll read it together.
