I know we still have a long wait but JK Rowling has announced she has completed the next Strike novel: twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1626688428523016192?s=20

Sorry to derail slightly, but I've never read any of the Strike books, is it best just to start at the beginning? Is it The Cuckoo's Calling that I need?

Yes

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2023 13:22

The Cuckoos calling is one of my favourite ( because it's the first time we meet everyone )
It is better to start with this one I think

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2023 13:31

Thank you!

Just a few loose ends to tie up @biwi and I will reveal all. Safe to say, no one is safe from an unhinged woman who has got something on a senior police officer.

It’s got shades of a well known professional victim and serial litigator who has the police equally in thrall.

Ooh!

Hedjwitch · 22/09/2023 20:28

Saving this for my long train journey next month.
Hope its back on track after Ink Black Heart which I couldnt finish

burnoutbabe · 22/09/2023 20:35

My dilemma is I reserved it ages ago at local library. I should be first. But I then go on holiday for 3 weeks the following week!

So take it with me (it will be heavy!!)
Or let the library reservation lapse and go to back if queue!
It may also arrive when j am away so I'll need to get neighbour to collect.

WhatsMyDream · 22/09/2023 20:52

I've pre-ordered it on audible 😊

Thought that was a Running Grave plot preview there for a moment.

I'd say take it on holiday but how long do you get to borrow it for? If you're away for three weeks will it go overdue?

I reserved a copy at my library three weeks ago but then cancelled it when I say I was 38th in the queue!! Bought a copy instead.

It’s certainly got a few twists! Looking fwd to this book, will order on audible.

burnoutbabe · 23/09/2023 13:18

i get 3 weeks loans and i am away just under - so its possible to collect day before holiday and return it day after i return. (actually i could be bad -not actually collect book from library but go in and read it every day from the reservation shelf without checking it out - check out on day before holiday - nahm thats too much effort)

(and fines are 20p per day)

So its possible, though odds on i will get an alert on the day i go away - WHEN THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED - gah to Wednesday closing!)

so all exciting! i can see my posts from a year ago today when i collected the last one and started reading.

There's an interesting review in the Sunday Times today -www.thetimes.co.uk/article/1bd3ca1e-56f0-11ee-9c2e-1c7fe7ce2a43?shareToken=545ba8dbfb578061ecef0e723bd4f0b3

Namechangenora52 · 24/09/2023 12:13

Thanks for posting that. Even more excited to read it now...

the80sweregreat · 24/09/2023 13:51

A positive review

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 24/09/2023 14:31

Really good review-type article. Very excited by the 900pages!!

InTheCludgie · 24/09/2023 15:34

Looking forward to this evening more after reading the review! I'm number 21 in the library queue (library has 8 copies altogether) but I think I'm going to crack and order a kindle copy before I get the loan.

InTheCludgie · 24/09/2023 15:34

Even, not evening!

BaconAndAvocado · 24/09/2023 19:33

My copy is arriving on Tuesday.
Finished my current book this morning but will NOT be starting another!
Hope it arrives early in the day, champing at the bit 😂

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 24/09/2023 19:35

I have an interview on Tues morning, how crap is that for timing!!

At least it's in the morning, I can read it afterwards.

jazzybelle · 24/09/2023 20:00

I ended up skipping all the chat room/media post stuff in the IBH. It was such a chore to read. Overall, I didn't enjoy it but have loved the other books. I also dislike hearing about Strike's stump and how sore and painful it is.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 25/09/2023 07:34

My copy is on the way! 😃 I can't decide whether to read it when it gets here or save it for Christmas.

MorrisZapp · 25/09/2023 09:01

I've just had a breast reduction so there's no way in hell I can lift a hardback, least of all a blimmin Strike novel.

I've pre ordered the kindle edition and I actually have the day off when it arrives. Happy swiping to me!

BabyStopCryin · 25/09/2023 19:21

So it’s delivered at 12.01 am?

TessoftheDurbyfields · 25/09/2023 22:56

Anyone else waiting up to midnight to start reading it on Kindle??
