I know we still have a long wait but JK Rowling has announced she has completed the next Strike novel: twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1626688428523016192?s=20

I really want this to be an endorsement quote on the back cover of the book😝

If JKR sends me an advance copy of the book, I'll happily oblige!

toffee1000 · 20/07/2023 09:36

I’ve spotted it on the Waterstones website, coming out in September. Seems to involve Robin infiltrating a religious cult.

SwordToFlamethrower · 20/07/2023 10:14

I am also waiting for my library to stock Ink Black Heart!

Hedjwitch · 20/07/2023 10:22

I am hoping its back to brilliant after Ink Black Heart which I eventually gave up on. Love the series but hated that one.

the80sweregreat · 20/07/2023 10:33

I saw a preview of the plot on Facebook
Seems similar to another book I have read , but I can't remember the name of it !!

BabyStopCryin · 21/09/2023 10:01

It’s coming out next week! Are they filming it? I watched Troubled Blood and it was bloody awful.

I actually wondered if the person who wrote it was trying to make the characters unpleasant and unreasonable (Gloria was actually a sweet ‘little girl’ and an orphan), deliberately miss key points (some bits just didn’t make sense) and how could they NOT have the wee dog, for goodness sake…

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 21/09/2023 12:47

Can't wait for it to arrive! I am going to get nothing useful done during that week.

I didn't watch troubled blood as I cancelled my TV licence a while back, glad I wasn't missing much @BabyStopCryin !

paranoidnamechanger · 21/09/2023 12:52

I didn’t like The Ink Black Heart, so I’m reluctant at the moment to read this. Then again, it’s only £12.50, the price of four coffees. Does anyone buy these books full price?

TodayInahurry · 21/09/2023 12:56

I have just finished In Black Heart. It was quite hard going and I did not like all the twitter/online game stuff. I do like the TV series however and have watched them all

I got arrested for posting about the ink black heart on instagram. The crazy woman who monitors me online said it was a direct threat to her. The PC asked me if I could describe the plot to him, I said “probably not”.

sigh

BabyStopCryin · 21/09/2023 14:13

What??

CharlotteRumpling · 21/09/2023 14:15

Yes! I loved the Ink Black Heart.

NunsKnickers · 21/09/2023 14:20

My audible copy of the new book will arrive onto my phone in 4 days time!!

And I loved Ink Black Heart. Her best yet I thought but then I really enjoyed the chat room and twitter stuff.

Prrambulate · 21/09/2023 17:00

The Ink Black Heart was incredibly well done. She captured the online environment scarily well. I remember that mean comment where someone ridiculed a moderator (with dyslexia) who always left a space before her exclamation marks, and it’s that kind of cruel humour that predominates in forums and places like 4chan.

I still couldn’t help feeling it was overly long. It just dragged in parts. I didn’t feel the same way about Troubled Blood.

toffee1000 · 22/09/2023 06:38

I haven’t actually read it. I started reading it a while ago but stopped for some reason, not sure why. I didn’t hate it or anything! I’d like to pick it back up again but the length is kinda putting me off. And the online chats are difficult to follow. Should I persist in reading them or could I skip them? Would I miss out on much plot-wise?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 22/09/2023 07:08

You will miss out on details that are then referred to by strike & robin and theoretically allow you to work out the killer (I never manage to work it out!) but you could definitely read it and it would still make sense if you skipped the online chats.

BIWI · 22/09/2023 09:40

I think we need to know more @Hanlonsamazer!

Hanlonsamazer · 22/09/2023 10:19

BIWI · 22/09/2023 09:40

I think we need to know more @Hanlonsamazer!

Just a few loose ends to tie up @biwi and I will reveal all. Safe to say, no one is safe from an unhinged woman who has got something on a senior police officer.

It’s got shades of a well known professional victim and serial litigator who has the police equally in thrall.

chipshopElvis · 22/09/2023 10:30

I found Ink Black Heart heavy weather, but have loved the others so looking forward to Tuesday. I wish it had been released this weekend though!

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2023 12:35

The silkworm and IBH I found rather difficult
The texting and chat room pages were so hard to understand on my kindle and it's the only one I haven't re read.
I think TRG will have a more simplistic story ( from what I've read about it online, anyway )

BabyStopCryin · 22/09/2023 12:56

The books are so much better than the tv adaptations. I watched the silk worm last night - nope. Too many bits missing, some bits included but they didn’t make sense, characters missing… maybe if they didn’t try to cut it down?

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 22/09/2023 13:02

Oh I’m so happy this popped up in chat, had no idea it was out so soon. Off to order it on my kindle now

UnaOfStormhold · 22/09/2023 13:08

Perfect timing - just coming to the end of IBH on a re-read of the series so should be all ready when TRG appears. To be honest I don't really care very much about the whodunnit bits (not normally a crime reader), I just love reading about Robin and want to know how her story turns out.

the80sweregreat · 22/09/2023 13:15

I prefer the dynamics between Strike and Robin rather than the actual mystery ( apart from Troubled blood which is her master piece so far of these set of books , in my opinion anyway )
The way they interact with each other is always fun. I think Strike will go on a big diet and give up smoking / drinking beer
He'll be a bit cool about Robin's new partner !

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2023 13:18

Sorry to derail slightly, but I've never read any of the Strike books, is it best just to start at the beginning? Is it The Cuckoo's Calling that I need?
