I know we still have a long wait but JK Rowling has announced she has completed the next Strike novel: twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/1626688428523016192?s=20

Looking forward to hearing a publication date - I suppose it'll be 2024? What do people think?

VivietteConstantine · 18/02/2023 09:21

Ooh excited already!

toffee1000 · 18/02/2023 13:21

Sounds interesting! I haven’t finished Ink Black Heart though, it’s such a huge brick of a book! Maybe I’ll have read it by the time the next one comes out Grin

InTheCludgie · 18/02/2023 18:16

For the last two books it was apparently about an eight month turnaround between finishing writing and book publication. So maybe October/November?
I've yet to read Ink Black Heart, still waiting for it from the library. After that, it'll probably feel like very long wait until book 7 is here!

BIWI · 18/02/2023 18:23

Hopefully it will be better edited - and therefore a lot shorter - than the last one!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/02/2023 18:31

Oh good. Looking forward to that. It was an interesting experiment trying to reproduce all that online dialogue, but I have to agree, I don't think it entirely worked.

However, I am extremely keen to know what happens next between Cormoran and Robin.

What an indomitable woman she is. It can't be easy facing the nonsense that's thrown at her day after day.

tribpot · 18/02/2023 18:34

Yay, good news. Agree that some judicious editing would be good but if we're following the trajectory of Potter novels we're in for a monster this time.

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2023 18:41

Good news. I Cannot wait and I hope it's better than the IBH , which I did struggle with a bit as my kindle had the internet chats all wrong and I was so frustrated at times !
However, I shall buy and devour the new novel as soon as it's released !

HopRockers · 18/02/2023 18:42

Oh I'm so excited!
I did find the online dialogue really tricky but the book itself didn't feel too long for me.
I think I needed someone to declare how it was meant to be read 😂(by thread/by page/something else!)but I'm that horror of a reader who has read choose your own adventure books from page 1 straight through....

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2023 18:48

I'm hoping it'll be a bit like Troubled blood than the last one.
Although I did like the fact that IBH got on with the story a lot more , so both had their strong points. Even if I struggled with a lot of it at times

I hope that Robins new man friend doesn't turn out to be shockingly awful as well

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2023 18:49

Sorry to post a spoiler below !
..

LynneBenfield · 18/02/2023 18:49

Oh good. I didn’t enjoy IBH but enjoyed the other Strike novels, so hopefully this one will be back on track.

It took me a while to get into the swing of the dialogue style of IBH but it was fine once I settled in. I just didn’t enjoy the story and the book felt like more like something JKR needed to get out of her system for therapeutic purposes, than a story for the Strike audience.

the80sweregreat · 18/02/2023 18:55

IBH was definitely two fingers to the trolls and key board warriors who think it's funny to demean someone for having a different point of view and what can happen to people who are vulnerable as well.
It was hard going at times, but I love the characters so much I preserved with it
I don't think these two will get together in this book either.. I think the die hard fans will be disappointed! But who knows ?

turnthebiglightoff · 18/02/2023 18:56

Is it definitely a Strike book, or a more like the Casual Vacancy type?

Hedjwitch · 18/02/2023 21:26

Iove the Strike novels but had to give up on Ink Black Heart. First Galbraith book I didnt finish.

Calistan · 18/02/2023 23:08

Is the TV series representative of the books? Because I thought the TV series was pretty frigging boring

BornBlonde · 18/02/2023 23:17

I'm still reading IBh. I got it on my kindle and all the game/chat room pages are very difficult to read. So I've been reading it slowly as I really need to be in the mood for it

I didn't like the tv version

The books are way better. While you can jump in anywhere, they’re best if you start with The Cuckoo’s Calling & carry on in order.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 18/02/2023 23:44

Hurrah!!! I really hope it's out in the autumn. Strike books are great for autumn days.

Nimbostratus100 · 18/02/2023 23:47

I hope Strike doesnt have some terrible neurological condition! I am worried about him! I love IBH

the80sweregreat · 19/02/2023 13:18

I Hope Strike isn't poorly again .. that was horrible. He needs to stop smoking / drinking
I hope that Mitch is nice to Robin as well !
She deserves to be wined and dined in style

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 19/02/2023 14:29

She absolutely does... But I want her and Strike to get it on, dammit!
