Is it too early to start an Ink Black Heart thread? (No Spoilers)

I tried to hold back until July so I could say 'next month', but apparently the cover design and back cover blurb will be released tomorrow.

Anyone have thoughts and/or predictions they'd like to obsess over for a couple of months?

I’ve finished and I’m bereft! It is brilliant.
We live right next to one of the locations and I got thoroughly overexcited and sent a screen shot of the page to everyone I know claiming this means JKR has practically been to my house for a cup of tea.
I don’t know what to do with myself now…

ps: the butler did it.

I work in Central London & there are times when I walk past somewhere & suddenly realise it featured in one of the books.

Mydogisweird · 03/09/2022 15:16

I’m listening to this one and on chapter 46. I keep losing track of who is who and some of it is quite tedious. I almost don’t care about the investigation and ‘whodunnit’ Ive loved every other one of her books and am still enjoying the usual characters so will keep going.

i could do with a character list like Jilly Cooper does in her books!! Not going to google in case I see any spoilers.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 03/09/2022 16:41

I am nearly at the end - haven't gone on the spoilers thread yet - and while I am enjoying it but really struggling with the online chat on the kindle. It takes ages to read and is annoying me

Who do you need-we might be able to help?

I'm on chapter 55 on audible. Loving it but feel like Glennister is getting some of the voices wrong. The girl from Norfolk who sounds like a proper bumpkin which isn't that convincing and Madeline sounds shrill and not very attractive, but according to the description she is.....

Mydogisweird · 04/09/2022 08:59

Thanks @MrsWooster I’m enjoying it a bit more now that it’s ramped up a bit. I keep forgetting who is connected to the arts place and who voice the characters in the show.
I think that’s the problem with an audio book, you can’t flick back to reread bits but I don’t have time to sit and read the book, at least I can be doing boring life stuff whilst I listen.

Finished!

AlternativelyWired · 04/09/2022 15:19

I couldn't wait to finish the web chat bit. It seemed to go on forever. Now at chapter 8 I think and it's getting more interesting. It should translate to tv well. I'm booking an opticians appointment tomorrow as I'm really struggling with the tiny print.

Doing the web chats on TV could be pretty tricky.

Hi there’s a lot more to come…. Maybe worth getting a page magnifier or something..?

Maggiesgirl · 05/09/2022 09:32

I listened on Audible. The Web chat was awful on that and found myself fast forwarding through it so missed some of the clues.

Probably because of that it isn't my favourite Strike book.

I recently met up with some friends for a walk and pub lunch at the White Horse at Uffington and the pub in Woolstone where Strike and Robin went after their meeting at Chiswell House. I got quite excited. After finishing the Ink Black Heart I went back and read that part of Lethal White now I've seen the place for myself. Bit sad I know!

KittenKong · 05/09/2022 13:28

I used to work close to their office and the famous pub…

BaconAndAvocado · 05/09/2022 15:34

Just bought my copy from the local Waterstone’s.
Tempted to abandon the Liane Moriarty I’m currently reading......

theveg · 05/09/2022 15:41

Afaik JK still lives in Edinburgh but these are such London novels and she must know it really well. In TB I really loved the atmosphere she created in and out of clerkenwell and in this one she really does covey the vibe of Highgate/Hampstead arty Bohemia. Love it.

RoyalCorgi · 05/09/2022 17:17

Just finished it. Absolutely loved it. Who else could write a 1200-page book that keeps you entertained all the way?

Purpleavocado · 05/09/2022 20:11

I've returned the audible as it was annoying me. I love Robert Glenister but I didn't think the format worked. Reading it on kindle now.

KittenKong · 05/09/2022 20:21

I thought the audible was ok. Still can’t stand his ‘Scottish’ accent (dreadful!)

the80sweregreat · 05/09/2022 20:25

I do believe that JKR actually goes to every single place she writes about.
(Only from what I've gathered from fan pages etc)

I'm struggling with the private channel chat too, whether to read one chat all the way down or read across in real time.
Story is great as ever though.

Same here. I think it had to be done like that to convey the multiple chats happening at the same time, but it’s quite difficult to follow.

hiredandsqueak · 06/09/2022 11:14

Finished it on Audible my eyesight means reading is laborious. Really enjoyed it back to James Oswald series now.

Smilingwithfangs · 06/09/2022 15:48

Can someone with the book check for me pls
at the start of chapter 38 (I think) the quote is by Henry Gray who wrote Gray’s Anatomy and I’m sure the narrator gave his professional initials after the name as FRS but I think it should be FRCS (fellow of royal college of surgeons) so wondered if this was a narration error or was the same in type
sorry very nerdy but it’s been really annoying me!

VivietteConstantine · 06/09/2022 16:39

It does say FRS @SSmilingwithfangs but according to Wikipedia that is correct- Fellow of the Royal Society.
