I saw the original film as a small child (in the days where there were hardly any TV channels and never more than one TV in a house so you had to watch whatever your mum was watching on wet Sunday afternoons) and was absolutely terrified by the mad nun stamping on the good one's fingers. It's stuck in my mind ever since.

That sounds terrifying for a child, I'm not surprised that it stuck in your mind, I haven't watched the film(or tv show. I'll have to make a point of doing that when I finish the book.
