Setting this up for Strike and Ellacott fans to talk about spoilery things.

Maybe they’ve updated the year? In the book the IndyRef was happening.

AfterEightMintyCedric · 13/12/2022 13:42

In the book she refers to turning 40 having prompted her decision to try and get ro the bottom.of what happened to her mum, so she was less than a year old when Margot disappeared.

It's not the greatest thing to have slipped through the net!

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 13/12/2022 14:26

Having watched the whole thing now, I think they handled the scene where Morris creeps up on Robin brilliantly.

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2022 17:04

Mucky Ricci was well cast ! Scary

AfterEightMintyCedric · 13/12/2022 19:49

I'm just gutted we didn't get the Betty Fuller interview...Miriam Margolyes would've been perfect!

KittensNotMittens · 14/12/2022 08:16

Just heard them advertise it on R4. They said based on the novel by JKR and not Galbraith. Wonder why?

anyway - I don’t enjoy it. Too many gaps, people weren’t same as in the book - tones down - the girl student (can’t remember her name) was an utter tit in the book and she’s just very irritating here, the landlord (gawd names!) is a bit camp (in the book it’s mentioned that he isn’t at all) and where’s his dog? I don’t think the old doctor was married and yes, Betty would have been a right character!

gloria was a silly brat (far more tragic I’m the book).

EmpressaurusOfWitchesBackFromTheDead · 14/12/2022 12:03

and where’s his dog?

God, yes, they’ve left out Wolfgang!

PauliString · 14/12/2022 14:17

Wolfgang's eyes pleading for casserole were a highlight of the otherwise harrowing dinner party chapter.

KittensNotMittens · 14/12/2022 18:19

And they missed the Ilsa and Mark (?) storyline.

I’m not sure the whole thing would make sense to someone who hasn’t read the book. The characters wouldn’t seem do 2d either.

AutisticLegoLover · 14/12/2022 23:09

The scene between Robin and Morris was the best in the series I think but Pat stole the show with her line about him sending Robin a dick pick being a waste of a stamp🤣That really tickled me and I was laughing out loud and am still greatly amused now.
Lots of smouldering looks between S&R 🥰

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2022 14:10

Robin Askwith , great piece of casting there along with Ricci !

HermioneWeasley · 15/12/2022 17:37

It was much, much too rushed. I’m not sure it would make sense if you hadn’t read the book. And why did they change Steve douthwaithe telling Strike what Margot had advised him - that’s what cracks the case? They also mangled the scene where Strike tells her she’s his best friend. Pat is wonderful though and I thought Morris was well cast

the woman playing Janice was brilliant though - that end scene was spot on.

the80sweregreat · 15/12/2022 18:26

Dh has never read any of her books, but he understood this. I have read them all and I know I might have been confuse if I hadn't read them previously ! I had forgotten bits of the story and the red herrings.

upinaballoon · 16/12/2022 21:01

The woman playing Janice is Tom Burke's mother.

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2022 22:06

Oh wow! His mum..
That must have been funny filming that for them

Southeastdweller · 17/12/2022 12:45

Way too rushed, the TV series. The killer reveal had no impact as a result and I was distracted by Anna Calder-Marshall's poor cockney accent.

toffee1000 · 25/01/2023 06:37

Just been watching first episode. The boy playing child Cormoran looked amazingly like Tom Burke! He even had a cleft lip scar (maybe that was something they were looking for in casting). Usually when they have a scene featuring a child version of an adult character they don’t really resemble the adult. But this kid was spot on!

GonetoGateshead · 19/08/2023 17:26

Don't know any Strike fans in RL, wondering if anyone else is struck between some of the parallels in the reporting of Lucy Letby & nurse Janice's confession to Strike.

And as Pat would call it - classic 'Nutter Writting'

I'm not what what you would cal
a true crime aficionado so normally wouldn't be drawn to details about serial killers.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 19/08/2023 17:51

I wondered if it was just me!

GonetoGateshead · 19/08/2023 18:28

I was sure I couldn't be the only one.

I don't know if it's just that JKR is so insightful & clever, or if the kind of people that do this have similar traits.

I'm too young to remember much of the detail on the reporting of Beverley Allitt.

Lunde · 19/08/2023 20:25

I was thinking that as well - especially with the keeping of photos and mementos of the victims.

Also have had a similar feeling about the Australian mushroom poisonings - didn't the murderer in Troubled Blood also cook for some of the victims?

Yes, she fed both Irene & Steve Douthwaite poisoned food, not to kill them but so that they needed her. (The Works of Robert Galbraith would be my mastermind subject 🤣)

The aus mushroom poisoning is awful, I don't like to judge based on scant news paper results but can it be a coincidence that her ex husband was also very very sick the year before. And again a woman suspect.

Lunde · 21/08/2023 23:35

Are we going to start a new thread for when the Running Grave is released next month?

I hope it will be easier to read than Ink Black Heart as I have an eye condition and the chatroom pages were just impossible.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 22/08/2023 06:38

It has a name? Oooohhhh how did I miss that? 🤗

Lancelottie · 22/08/2023 11:40

Yep, JKR announced it originally by anagram.

I'm still faintly miffed that it wasn't 'The Gurning Raven'.

Maybe that could be a pub in a Harry Potter/StrikeEllacott follow-up.
