Setting this up for Strike and Ellacott fans to talk about spoilery things.

I suggest fan fiction to ease the pain of waiting for book 6. You've already got the bare bones of something and a great dialogue hook there.Smile

OK, I'd prefer something a bit more lively from Robin, with maybe a 'Fuck's sake, Strike, give me credit for a bit of self-preservation, you daft bugger...'

EllacottObsessive · 03/03/2021 20:06

Yup. I'll set a group account on Ao3 and we'll do a round robin.Grin

She can always look beautiful while she does it, if you insist.

@EllacottObsessive

If I produced these episodes every week, I definitely wouldn't! Grin
That's a sacrifice the rest of us are willing to make... Grin

I'm saving this episode for a while... I've got some hosp appts coming up that are likely to involve a fair bit of waiting around & I could use the distraction. I shall enjoy the anticipation!

I wish JKR would do a Taylor Swift & drop the new book on us unexpectedly. It's not really the done thing with book launches though! Sad

parentalhelpline · 04/03/2021 21:22

Imagine waking up in the morning and discovering Strike 6 had dropped overnight! 😲

I'd have to call in sick if I were working that day. (As it was, I was pretty much banging on the door of Waterstones the day Troubled Blood was published.)

Those poor people over at Hogwarts Professor would be gutted at having been robbed of months of pre-publication analysis of every clue.

It's a great episode, ISmellLikeRobin. Hope your appointments go well.

I was watching the England football match earlier. One of the players is called Ben Chilwell. I kept thinking it was Jasper, like the MP in Lethal White (except his surname was Chiswell) GrinGrin

I was on another thread about these two and this one was flagged up.
Interesting reading so far. Cant wait for the new book , but I guess it will be ages yet.
Love the observations on here about their relationship.
I didn't know who the killer was until the end! Even though it's mentioned that Janice was interviewed 12 times in the past! How did I miss that?

parentalhelpline · 31/03/2021 12:31

Welcome! Always thrilled to see more Strike and Robin fans, whether they are Strellacott zealots or not.

And yes, I'm resigned to 2022 at the earliest for Strike 6.

the80sweregreat · 31/03/2021 14:26

Thank you. !
I love all the books. Cuckoo is my absolute favorite followed by TB. Silkworm I really struggled with.
I'm happy for them to be best friends if I'm honest.
I don't think they would work as a couple as both are very damaged. Just my opinion, but I'm sure there are more bumps in the road for them both.
I love the characters. I like to think they could work over lockdown!
Love this thread too.

toffee1000 · 03/04/2021 06:35

@the80sweregreat that does seem to happen quite a lot with murderers/serial killers, being interviewed multiple times. The Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe was interviewed nine times during the investigation of his murders.

Yes, I guess so but when I read it again I just thought ' how did I miss this?'
I guess it was a red herring to me as the first investigation was a copper who was clearly not doing a great job of it! Plus Irene seemed the dodgy one not Janice.

toffee1000 · 03/04/2021 19:13

I’ve only read it the once. It’ll be interesting to re-read!

Tweet from R Galbraith: ‘On this day eight years ago the first #Strike novel hit bookshops in the UK and the very first readers made the acquaintance of one Cormoran Blue Strike. #TheCuckoosCalling’

Does anyone else think that calls for a celebratory podcast?

toffee1000 · 19/04/2021 03:17

I’m currently re-reading. I recently read the bit where Strike interviews Janice alone for the first time... and she mentions the rumour about a body being buried in concrete in some building foundations! Damn, you really only pick up on the significance of some things when you reread.

I do! Grin

Very true. I only noticed on approximately my billionth re-listen of the audiobook that when Strike and Robin first visit Irene’s house to interview her and Janice, the latter brings in the tea tray and places it on an ottoman. Not much but it’s little things like that I love about JK’s writing.

Robostripes · 06/05/2021 17:38

I’m reviving this thread to say hi! I’m a new Strike fan, I got the first book for Christmas and read it and the Silkworm at a fairly sedate pace, then became a bit more obsessed and got through COE, LW and TB at a rate of knots! I’ve just listened to your first two podcasts @EllacottObsessive and think they’re great!

mum2jakie · 26/06/2021 11:57

If anyone hasn't already read it and wants a paperback copy - it's available for £3.50 on Amazon now

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/08/2021 08:14

There’s a new episode of the Denmark Street Deep Dive podcast!

parentalhelpline · 16/08/2021 17:45

I know! Just extended my commute so I could finish listening to it.

🙌🙌🙌

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 16/08/2021 18:02

And it was fascinating, really interesting angle. I need to re-read the book. Again.

parentalhelpline · 16/08/2021 18:14

I find it easier just to keep my copy permanently open beside my bed and dip into it. Grin

For some reason it always seems to fall open at chapters 41-43, 58 and 73.
