Setting this up for Strike and Ellacott fans to talk about spoilery things.

Dave Polworth - you want to laugh with him but he is obviously a bit of a dick too (Rowling is a flipping genius at creating real, vivid characters). But he absolutely has Strike and Charlotte nailed:

‘Good move,’ his old friend Dave Polworth had said without missing a beat, when Strike told him of the engagement [to Charlotte]. ‘Shame to waste all that combat training. Slightly increased risk of getting killed, though, mate.’ (Lethal White)

Lancelottie · 30/11/2020 14:11

I read that and thought 'Ron Weasley'.

Second podcast up on Spotify. It's on a few other platforms now for those that prefer them. Apple takes the longest apparently, too soon for that, but it's on google and a couple of others as well.

Whoops. A link might be useful...

I think I might have accidentally called Holliday 'Holly' - I'm blaming tiredness after work and an annoying tickle in the throat that made it very hard to concentrate.

parentalhelpline · 30/11/2020 15:16

Nailed it again. Excellent work.

EllacottObsessive · 30/11/2020 15:25

Do the clips work?

OP posts:
EllacottObsessive · 30/11/2020 15:27

Just prove I might have had a brain fart, but I do know who Holliday is.

I've seen her called Holly in interviews, if that helps.

Yes, clips fine.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 30/11/2020 15:35

another spot on podcast EO Flowers.

Yes, I've seen her called Holly as well, you could probably get away with calling it an affectionate nickname maybe?

Am very much enjoying The Hour (recommendation from earlier in the thread) btw, although DD3 is now coming home on Wednesday, so I have a LOT of TV to get through now [panics]. Maybe I could get away with explaining it's a new lockdown book group trend???

Loved it!!! You got my favourite bit in “they’ve ruined pubs!!”

I’m glad it wasn’t Just me with the Aunty Joan thing (also I have to say as a childless woman Joan & ted are one of the few positive childless characters I’ve read in books!)

As lockdown trends go, gazing at pictures and watching telly programmes and films wit Tom Burke in them definitely beats banana cake.

Ok, radiators have never made me jealous before.

Messy collar and tie FTW there. The whole not giving a fuck thing is ridiculously pleasant.

First one is up on apple iTunes now, for anyone who prefers a different format. Please feel free to share the podcasts, it's actually been a lot of fun to do. And if you'd like me to waffle on about anything specific, or have other suggestions (apart from volunteering for the Tom Burke interview crew) let me know.

Fuck you’re good. And I really like your voice too.

Yes, there aren't many. Perhaps more in children's books?

Joan is a lovely contrast to Janet (they must be similar ages), the murderous mother. Are Robin's mother and Lucy the only positive recurring maternal characters in the series? Ilsa wants to be a mother but can't be, Charlotte doesn't want to be one and is going to repeat all her own mother's mistakes, Leda was loving but not a great parent.

Lancelottie · 30/11/2020 19:03

Well, there’s Robin’s own mother - living, mildly annoying, always there when needed (and when not)?

Lancelottie · 30/11/2020 19:03

Loving! Though being alive possibly also a rare bonus

EllacottObsessive · 30/11/2020 19:04

Q - did I pitch the risque Tom Burke joke right? I'm trying to keep it fairly PG, which is a shame because I did want to include the whole Drunk Strike conversation up to 'Beardy!' at some point, and 'lazy fuckers' would mean I'd want to put a language warning. It's hard enough for me, as I've got a mouth like a navvy normally. Strike canon language is definitely going to take it over the line af some point. But I wanted to pitch the Tom love as cheeky, rather than cringeworthy.

Q - did I pitch the risque Tom Burke joke right?

I laughed. And it would have gone over a lot of kids’ heads I’d have thought. You could do a late night version!

EllacottObsessive · 30/11/2020 19:37

Yeah, I was thinking about an episode looking at fanfic and the different ways it approaches first moves and sexual behaviour between them and whether it works in character, and I think that would have to come with a content warning in all fairness.

OP posts:
EllacottObsessive · 30/11/2020 19:39

Plus I'm going to end up capturing literally all the dialogue from iPlayer, so they'd better bloodh hurry up and film Troubled Blood. An audio clip of 'Shaggable You' will be gold

Oh well done EllacottObsessive on another great podcast. Really enjoying your take on it. Very enjoyable indeed.

I'd love one on all his various female relationships. Comparing and contrasting them. Leda, Charlotte, his sister, Joan, his short term relationships etc.

Is there a need for PG-rated podcasts? The books themselves are not PG rated are they? I guess what I am saying is that as a reader of fanfic, nothing shocks me any more Grin
