Hi, we all love a writer who's a Mumsnetter, don't we? (Well, I do!) If you haven't come across her before, may I introduce to you Mary Torjussen, who writes brilliant psychological thrillers?

We first met on the MN Creative Writing board and have been friends ever since, going through the ups and downs of publishing together, being the first to read each other's work (we write in different genres) and acting as virtual office colleagues, replacing chats in the tea room with WhatsApp!

Anyway, Mary's latest book is called The Closer You Get and it's AMAZING! Here's the blurb, if you're interested:

Is a marriage worth saving – whatever the cost?

Ruby didn’t plan to have an affair. She doesn’t love her husband, but wouldn’t set out to steal someone else’s. Yet when she met Harry they simply couldn’t keep apart. Now, she’s brave enough to leave her marital home and start again, and so is Harry. Or so she thinks.

Waiting at a hotel for her lover to arrive, Ruby realises she has made a mistake. Harry won’t come. He will never leave his wife.

What Ruby hasn’t worked out is that someone else knows all about the affair. They have been watching Ruby’s every move. They are determined to punish her. And they are even closer than she thinks…

Don’t miss this taut and gripping novel packed with edge-of-your-seat tension and a tale of love that goes badly wrong, perfect for fans of Shalini Boland and Lisa Hall. amzn.to/3eGveYm

Oh I’ve read this book too and completely agree it’s a fantastic read. I’m a big fan of Mary Torjussen and love the way she writes about things that could happen to any of us! I’d recommend too Grin

I read Gone without a trace and loved it! Will definitely get this one and added The girl I used to be to my list. Thank you.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/05/2020 21:46

That’s great news, I have enjoyed all her others, didn’t know she had a new one out. Thanks op.

MissBattleaxe · 21/05/2020 21:49

I loved this book. My attention span has been crap since smart phones but Mary's books keep me up late with my mouth open. Her books are like Pringles. Don't start one if you have to be anywhere important!

I love all her books. Read ones that don't seem to be available now (tried to recommend to my gf but couldn't find the early ones on amazon to show her).
Downloaded the new one this week and am really looking forward to reading it!

BitOfFun · 21/05/2020 23:05

Fantastic- downloaded!

MissBattleaxe · 22/05/2020 00:15

@Shuttup which book is that? I don't remember that from any of her three books.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 22/05/2020 00:55

I've just read this and really liked it! I loved the fact she was a mumsnetter!

MeantToBeWriting · 22/05/2020 10:13

Thanks, everyone!

@shuttup, I saw your post but can see it's gone now. I think you're talking about an early book that I self-published, called The Lonely Cool Before Dawn. When I first got (traditionally) published I had to take down my self-pubbed books - (@southbailey that's why you can't find them now!) Sorry you didn't like it though, @shuttup, and hope you give the others a chance.

southbailey · 22/05/2020 10:23

@meanttobewriting just searched my kindle and also "your time my time "? I think 🤔

MeantToBeWriting · 22/05/2020 10:37

Yes, that's another one that was pulled! Publishers don't like you having self-published books alongside their books as they haven't gone through the same scrutiny.

readwritelove · 25/05/2020 11:44

@JBFletcherismyaunt Yes, that’s the fab thing about her books - the things that happen are things that could happen to anyone! Her books are also like rollercoasters - once you’re on, you can’t get off! Glad you enjoyed it.

I agree! They could happen to the woman next door. Scary and addictive!

mum2jakie · 25/05/2020 17:31

I read the two self published books and thought they were really good.

MeantToBeWriting · 25/05/2020 20:30

That's really nice of you, @mum2jakie. I loved writing those books - I haven't read them since they were self-published but I'll always remember them with great affection! The first one I had published in the traditional way was Gone Without a Trace, which was inspired by a thread on MN.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 27/06/2020 14:05

I have read it now, it was excellent and I finished it in 2 sittings. Very tight and page turny, which was just what I needed at the moment as a distraction from RL!

Definitely recommend.

rareateeth · 27/06/2020 16:30

Thanks for this. Didn't know she had a new one out.

Downloaded the sample - and have paid as I'm already gripped.

Brilliant writer. Thankyou!

MeantToBeWriting · 30/06/2020 12:33

Thanks so much, @TheCountessofFitzdotterel! I'm so happy you liked it.

I hope you do, too, @rareateeth!

rareateeth · 30/06/2020 12:35

Yes! Finished it the next day. Brilliant. Really really loved it. Thankyou.

I'm going to review on Amazon when I get a chance Smile

MeantToBeWriting · 30/06/2020 13:48

Thanks so much! It makes such a huge difference.

saltedcaramelhotchoc · 03/07/2020 22:00

Hi Mary,
You sent me a draft of an earlier novel which I really enjoyed and I had read your self published works which then disappeared from my Kindle. I bought your new book and loved it. Great to see you have a publisher!

And op - can you tell us what you've published so we can try it too?;)

readwritelove · 04/07/2020 11:28

Hi @saltedcaramelhotchoc, I write rom coms, my latest is You, Me and the Movies...
