Hi, we all love a writer who's a Mumsnetter, don't we? (Well, I do!) If you haven't come across her before, may I introduce to you Mary Torjussen, who writes brilliant psychological thrillers?

We first met on the MN Creative Writing board and have been friends ever since, going through the ups and downs of publishing together, being the first to read each other's work (we write in different genres) and acting as virtual office colleagues, replacing chats in the tea room with WhatsApp!

Anyway, Mary's latest book is called The Closer You Get and it's AMAZING! Here's the blurb, if you're interested:

Is a marriage worth saving – whatever the cost?

Ruby didn’t plan to have an affair. She doesn’t love her husband, but wouldn’t set out to steal someone else’s. Yet when she met Harry they simply couldn’t keep apart. Now, she’s brave enough to leave her marital home and start again, and so is Harry. Or so she thinks.

Waiting at a hotel for her lover to arrive, Ruby realises she has made a mistake. Harry won’t come. He will never leave his wife.

What Ruby hasn’t worked out is that someone else knows all about the affair. They have been watching Ruby’s every move. They are determined to punish her. And they are even closer than she thinks…

Don’t miss this taut and gripping novel packed with edge-of-your-seat tension and a tale of love that goes badly wrong, perfect for fans of Shalini Boland and Lisa Hall. amzn.to/3eGveYm

Just bought it Thank you. I'm sure I read one of her other ones but my memory is appalling.

@saltedcaramelhotchoc Thanks so much! I've had three published now. The two I self-published had to be pulled - I'm sorry, I didn't realise they'd disappear from your kindle. Gone Without a Trace was based on a Mumsnet thread - is that the one you read an early copy of?

bakingcupcakes · 04/07/2020 11:43

@MeantToBeWriting I've read 2 of your published books and loved them. I haven't read the newest yet but it's on my list.

This thread just appeared in my active and I was intrigued.

I’m really into Mike Gayle and Milly Johnson who are definitely more rom com than thriller but after reading about the plot I am going on Amazon now to find this book. It sounds fabulous! I love reading and have let it slip for a while and need something to get
my teeth into.

Well done Mary!

If you like rom com then you will love the OP's books! Check out A Year of Being Single and her new book You, Me and the Movies. She's such a funny writer.

Thank you! Will look you up!

I think we’re in the same geographical area MT- I live just outside Liverpool Smile

I’ve found both of you on Amazon and have downloaded both books mentioned.

MeantToBeWriting · 04/07/2020 12:09

I'm over in Wallasey, @Zoflorabore! There's another local writer who I met on here - her name's Caz Finlay and she writes gangland thrillers set in Liverpool. Have you heard of her? Her books are great. The Boss is the first one in a series and a really good place to start. Nice to read local books!

Zoflorabore · 04/07/2020 15:48

I’m the opposite direction in Knowsley Smile I’ve not heard of Caz Finlay but I shall certainly look her up. I’m looking forward to a nice quiet night tonight with my new reads. Nothing better.

Lovely to hear of 3 local authors!

Zoflorabore · 04/07/2020 15:49

Sorry I meant 2! I’ve just relocated one with my fat fingers.

Will be buying this on Audiobooks ASAP. Thanks OP, just finished the Logan series my MacBride and was looking for something else.

Thanks, @Kust! I hope you enjoy it.
