maybe once all the horcruxes are destroyed and vs soul is whole again all the pain and suffering he endured on people all these years will torture him...........like a force too big for him to endure maybe and he bumps himself off, what do u think ???????

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 11:46

Yeah, but that was because Draco was obviously struggling with the responsibility, weight and probably even the morality of what he was trying to do - Voldemort just loves it!

I think Draco would be pretty unpleasant but basically good if his dad was out of the picture.

I think it's going to be something incredibly simple in the end - there's a lot of talk of luck and love isn't there?

In re-reading GOF I've been reminded of what V says in the graveyard, that he didn't know it was going to work when he created the horcruxes (horcruxi? nah!), he referred to killing all those people as 'an experiment'. I wonder if one or more of them won't work. Do you think we'll find out when he made the horcruxes and who he killed to make them?

I want to know more about the ring - DD really didn't explain how he got it or why it shrivelled up his hand, did he? God, that was horrible though.

oooooooooh i hope so,started readin hbp last night and im just up to the part where h is having his first lesson with dd,trying to remember as much info as poss for the new book and hopefully pick up on things id missed forst time round.......do u think that we'll see v in a more human way this book?????????????????

rosmerta · 13/07/2007 12:10

nah, V's changed himself too much to be seen as human!

Btw, just hopping around MN a bit and am amazed at the amount of HP names that are out there now!

suezee · 13/07/2007 12:13

i know what u mean, but do u think that the soul gets destroyed along with the horcrux or do u think that the soul will eventually be whole again.........if so do u not think the the completion of the soul will make him a little bit more human

rosmerta · 13/07/2007 12:17

I don't know but DD seemed to think that if you destroy the horcruxes then you destroy the soul

kneazlechick · 13/07/2007 12:26

I agree, Rosemerta, the soul doesn't join back up as you destroy the horcruxes. I'm sure that if it did V would know somehow. I think that H has to destroy all the others and then kill V and V will laugh as he thinks that he can't die but will suddenly realise at the last second. I don't think H will use AK on him because that is instant death - there is no time for V to realise that he is actually going to die. Also I think that if H did use AK it would somehow not fit in with the whole good/evil thing ... hmmm

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 13:10

And he can't tell when they're destroyed because the bit in his body is so small and unhuman. DD thought he'd realise towards the end though.

MrsWeasley · 13/07/2007 13:35

When the horcrux is destroyed so is the soul.

I think its important that V could only withstand posessing harry for such a short time at end of OotP because of Harrys emotions/feelings.

persephonesnape · 13/07/2007 13:41

very impressed with my 9 year old who knows all the standard spells and the results of. need to get 12 year old a wand for starting secondary school as 9yo believes thats what you get!

suezee · 13/07/2007 13:42

ooooooooooooooh mrs weasley, so you think that harrry is going to do v in just from his emotions????????????????????????????

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 13:48

Ooh, I'd forgotten about that possession thing.

Nearly finished GOF now, should I go straight to HBP before next Saturday, there's no way I'll finish it and OOTP by then?

If Harry doesn't use AK to kill V what do you think he will use? How else can you kill a wizard?

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 13/07/2007 13:59

Do you think it will be something about posession then. Maybe Harry will kiss him, al la dementor, and that will kill him. Assume Harry has to be full of love at the time he does it though for it to work (it's only when he though about Sirius that V left Harry's body in the MoM).

suezee · 13/07/2007 14:04

i have no idea

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 14:07

Mmnn, don't know. The kiss thing is too yukky to contemplate.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 13/07/2007 14:11

Maybe we should consider what we think is important and see if we can come up with anything from there. So:
Harry's eyes, the colour and the fact their his mother's
the fact his mother died to save him
the fact that Harry can still love after all he's been through
V can't possess Harry because of that love
V using some of Harry's blood to regenerate himself
the powers that V transferred to Harry during the attempt to kill him...
Anything else?

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 13/07/2007 14:12

Albus grammar! Sorry they're.

rosmerta · 13/07/2007 14:17

It does all come down to love really doesn't it? & didn't V say in GOF about how Harry's mother had invoked an ancient magic, one that he hadn't thought important, to protect him?

BecklePhoenixBird · 13/07/2007 14:20

Found you!
I personally think that Harry will kill V without the use of spells, perhaps with Gryffindor's sword?
Was reading through the interview with JKR which was linked to on the other thread and the bit where she talks about questions she should have been asked really caught my eye. She said there were 2 questions she had not been asked. 1 was "why didn't V die?" (obviously we know the answer to that now but the 2nd was that no-one had asked her why DD didn't finish of V at the end of OoTP. She said

"Although Dumbledore gives a kind of reason to Voldemort, it is not the real reason. When I mentioned that question to my husband?I told Neil that I was going to mention it to you?he said that it was because Dumbledore knows that there are two more books to come. As you can see, we are on the same literary wavelength. [Laughter]. That is not the answer; Dumbledore knows something slightly more profound than that. If you want to wonder about anything, I would advise you to concentrate on those two questions. That might take you a little bit further."

What did DD know??? Can't wait for book next week, hoping dh will drive so I can read on the way to Scotland! Hoping to see the film Sunday afternoon - going shopping for holiday stuff (without the kids!) so thought that would be a good time to slot it in!

BecklePhoenixBird · 13/07/2007 14:38

And I'm Hufflepuff (but only just)

allmytimeonmumsnet · 13/07/2007 14:51

For those who REALLY don't want Harry to die:

I found this on wikipedia. Probably been mentioned before but it caught my eye:

"Asked which five of her characters she would like to invite to dinner, she chose Harry, Hermione and Ron, but then hesitated before choosing her last characters, saying "See... I know who's actually dead," unsure whether she was permitted to invite those who are 'dead'"

Doesn't that imply that the 3 of them live!

~Incidently I was on there trying to find out more about the HBP as I simply don't have time now to reread it. I couldn't remember who it turned out to be: Snape! I don't remember seeing this discussed in any of the threads, point me in the right direction if I missed it. Surely it is important. V is also half blood and Lily was muggle-born yes. Lots of people have spoken about something between Lily and Snape. Is it possible that all 2 of them (or even all 3) are related in some way? The Black Family Tree on Wikpedia seems to link loads of the families together.

AlbusPercivalWulfricBrianSun · 13/07/2007 15:23

What was the reason DD gave to V for not trying to finish him off in the MoM?

PhoenixSongbird · 13/07/2007 15:38

The answer to both of JKR?s questions is Horcruxes. Why would DD ?finish off? V? He knew he had horcruxes out there and he wouldn?t die. Probably easier to fight a regenerated Voldemort than gaseous-soul () one. In ?spirit? form he could just go straight back to his death eaters and get regenerated again, needing the blood of his enemy again.

I got really excited when I read this, but then realised she said that before HBP came out and we had all the answers.

Probably still more to it though. I think DD would also want to give Harry the chance to do it.
