I am avoiding all news papers/internet/t.v untill i have read it i got HBP sort of ruined i had the radio on when i was reading it as it declared DD dead! I was mighty peed orf!

Luckily is i out ds2 to bed for anap and settle ds1 down with some colouring in things i ill have a good few hurs to read it then dp can look after them while i read it some more! lol

CharleeWeasley · 14/07/2007 08:50

does anyone know if the postmen are still striking today? i have ordered a second set of HP books so dp can read them all without skanking up mine! lol

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 08:54

Don't know abot today - but we had post yesterday, which I wasn't expecting

CharleeWeasley · 14/07/2007 08:55

We bloomin didnt, sigh i will have to wait untill monday now. grrr!

persephonesnape · 14/07/2007 08:59

morning ladies!

at hugh jackman ( not the naked pegged out one but, rrrrr! or the wolverine one...)

if oldman is too old, then rickman is even older - i think they both get away with it - sirius has been in azkabhan - that must be a little wearing...

and yes snape and lily did it - almost continually.

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 09:06

I suppose the agrument would be that they are playing a part and if John Travolta could play a teenager when he was about 30 then why can't Gary Oldman play someone who is supposed to be about 15 years younger than he is (Is it just me who sees the irony in his surname??)

LOL PSnape - why do you think I put a warning on the pegged out photo?? The one that it won't let you open was fab!! Do google image search - but I think you have to turn 'safe search' off first.

filchthemildmanneredjanitor · 14/07/2007 09:12

because gary oldman not only looks too old , he is just wrong. i can't explain how wrong he is. just...shudder..not sirius.

lupin is wrong too.

CharleeWeasley · 14/07/2007 09:27

Not likin' Lupin in 'that' way. Would make a nice friend though.

Just got the books so there is post tody if anyones interested!

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 10:22

Agree that neither Lupin nor Sirius is quite right. Appart from the lucious Mr Jackman, I can't think of anyone I'd like to have play either of them tho. Completely at a loss with Lupin. Trouble is, he is supposed to be clever and 'naughty' enough to be friends with James and Sirius but he isn't as extreme as them, in any area - not as good looking, as clever, as arogant ... etc.

Something else has been nagging at the back of my head ... why do you think it is that some witches and wizards have 'normal' names, like the Weasleys, and some have 'odd' names, like the Malfoys? I know there is a lot of difference between those 2 families, they are just an example. Take the Maurauders, James and Peter/Remus and Sirius. Just a thought.

persephonesnape · 14/07/2007 10:47

is it a pure blood/mixed blood thing? arthur has a muggle fixation, so probably just went for the most normal names possible, although in the wizarding world, 'normal' names may be seen as exotic. like sink estate folk calling their children mercedes ( Ron may have narrowly missed being called 'ford'.) Although Ginnys name is ginerva, a bit odd...

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 11:28

I thought that it might be pure-blood vs mixed thing but what about Peter Petigrew? And the Weasley's are pure blood but their names are Arthur and Molly ... and James was pure blood wasn't he? And Nevile.

Don't think it really matters. Just been interesting me for a while and I wondered what anyone else thought.

rosmerta · 14/07/2007 12:28

Kneazle - tho I'm not convinced its actually him!

We've had post today and am still counting on Amazon, they haven't let me down in the past but...

rosmerta · 14/07/2007 12:30

would you skip to the end?

Have to say I wouldn't because it would just ruin the whole story in a way, I want to read the whole thing & try & guess what happens

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 14:25

Rosmerta - I'm certain it's not him. I'm not taking any blame for it tho - I warned everyone and was told to post it twice!!

I wouldn't skip to the end either as it would ruin the whole story for me. I used to do it years ago but found that I wasn't enjoying books that much so I stopped.

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 14:27

Interesting link.

609 pages hey? 30 hours? Obviously they're talking about people who don't have 16 mo dds to worry about

"Nine out of 10 think it will be sadder saying goodbye to Harry than Prime Minister Tony Blair, the survey said." - Duh!!

MrsWeasley · 14/07/2007 15:38

Yes Rosmerta, Fred and George's final scene is in it.

AK is instant but you didnt get the same effect from it being used on sirius as you did with cedric from the films. In the book it doesnt mention that sirius was hit with the AK curse. I assumed that his death was because he went into the veil but in the film its a definate AK!

If anyone is concerned about the language I only noticed 1 swear word.

As V is afraid of death do you think he will become a ghost?

MrsWeasley · 14/07/2007 15:40

pretty sure I wouldnt skip to the end, even if I did I would still be as excited reading it.

persephonesnape · 14/07/2007 16:05

'If anyone is concerned about the language I only noticed 1 swear word.'

Ron?

LaDiDudleyDursley · 14/07/2007 16:36

I'm at work today and the choice of papers left in the hospital shop is low so.....my friend bought The Sun which has an article in saying that bookmakers have slashed the odds on Harry killing himself in DHas a sacrifice to the greater good I presume.

I will try to find a link.

LaDiDudleyDursley · 14/07/2007 16:38

here

MrsWeasley · 14/07/2007 17:01

I cant remember who said it! It was either Harry or Ron, they called someone a to**pot. I seem to think it was harry as it didnt sound natural but will double check tomorrow!

kneazlechick · 14/07/2007 18:45

Hmm - Harry kills himself ... well, I suppose that, if neither can survive while the other lives then maybe neither can survive when the other dies?? Is that a leap too far? I think it may well be!

MrsW - I agree that swearing would seem odd coming from Harry, Ron is more believable. But I suppose they are getting older so anything is possible.

MrsWeasley · 14/07/2007 22:04

HARRY DOES NOT DIE EVER

MrsWeasley · 14/07/2007 22:05
Smile
TransfiguratingLily · 15/07/2007 07:27

Yes I get tied in knots by 'neither can live while the other survives' ...'neither can live' jumps out a bit.
I am hoping to be surprised by Harry surviving somehow.
Can't imagine how she'll do it...not long to find out.
I have started rereading HBP and wonder again how Snape manages to fool Voldemort. Wonder is he genuinely on the bad side aswell as being what he is for Dumbledore, that Dumbledore knew it and accepted him on that understanding, while putting limits on him. That he is not a clear cut goody in disguise?

Definately think Voldemort will be a ghost, possibly ironically- a very pathetic ghost, because of his fear of death.
