I love crime thriller but I feel like every one I've read recently has been a let down.

I need something that is gripping and keeps me on the end of my seat.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

Anything by Sara Paretsky.

Zampa · 07/03/2019 17:28

They're not strictly crime thrillers but the "Slow Horses" collection of novels by Mick Herron are awesome. They're spy novels really so plenty of mystery, subterfuge (and death).

The Sean Duffy series by Adrian McKinty.

Raera · 07/03/2019 17:36

Rachel Abbott keeps me totally enthralled. Read them in order of publication as although they are stand alone books, there are some ongoing back stories.

stopdropandroll · 07/03/2019 17:36

factual but i LOVED the innocent man, and you can watch it on netflix too!

PotteringAlong · 07/03/2019 17:37

I am pilgrim

Charley50 · 07/03/2019 17:38

Ha! Came on to say I am Pilgrim too. Epitomises gripping.

All the Chris Carter books. In order. Your kids will have "freezer bingo" dinners for a while. Totally worth it.

I’ve liked Too Close this month, thought it was a real cut above the rest. Cheap on kindle too.

Sorry is amazing, a total mind mess up the whole way that all comes together at the end!!

Raera · 07/03/2019 18:06

Thanks inthekitchensink. Just spent a massive 99p on Kindle version of Too close!

Contraceptionismyfriend · 07/03/2019 18:08

The Chris Carter series is amazing. I would recommend them to anyone.

Zampa - I recently got hold of Slow Horses. It was a great read! Has it ever been on tv/film? I could almost imagine it on the screen!

MNSDKHheroines · 08/03/2019 09:35

Tatiana - Martin Cruz Smith

My favourite crime writers are Val McDermid and Karin Slaughter.
They have both written lots of books. I'm sure you'd find something by either of them worth reading.
Too many for me to just recommend one.
Just be aware their books can be very dark.

katseyes7 · 08/03/2019 12:48

My favourite is A Place of Execution by Val McDermid.

MyBestFriendIsAHamster · 12/03/2019 22:30

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will be adding all these to my reading list!

I loved Presumed Innocent and still have my copy from the nineties. Not sure how well it will have aged.

How about The Millenium trilogy?

GinisLife · 21/03/2019 21:47

The Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons

Wasitnotme · 23/03/2019 22:12

@BridlingtonSand I loved that film back in the 90's and have just downloaded the book for a bit of 'comfort reading' on a long flight. Thanks for the reminder/recommendation. 😊

shiveringtimber · 31/03/2019 23:37

The Bourne trilogy by Robert Ludlum was wonderful but I read them long before the films were made. I think they'd still be a good read, though.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 01/04/2019 02:15

I was just reminded of Linwood Barclay’s first thriller; No Time to Say Goodbye. A 14 year old girl wakes up and her entire family has disappeared. As an adult she sets out to discover what happened. The end is really satisfying it’s a stay-up-all-night-to-fund-out-what-happened read.

SwayingInTime · 01/04/2019 03:07

Anyone who loved I am pilgrim got any others to recommend? I loved it and would like something as gripping to get into. Sorry to hijack!
