Have you been to a Harry Potter (or other) midnight book launch before? Is it worth the effort? Or is it a damp squib?

We are driving up to Oban (from SW Cumbria) on the Friday - so a long, tiring day. Then travelling by ferry to Mull the following day.

Ds1 (will be just 10) is a huge HP fan, and has read all the books several times. I was assuming he would go to a midnight book launch, as he'll be desperate for the book. But dh thinks it would be better for him to get a good night's sleep, so he's not cranky all holiday, and pick the book up first thing Sat am.

Oh no, do let him go - he'll remember it for ever. Last in series - there'll never be another one!

You going to do it in Oban? (Bink thinks she recalls a Waterstone's on the harbour front.) That might have a charm of its own - either the entire toon will be there (naething else to do) or it'll be ds and his new best friend, plus perhaps a dog.

Really, strong vote in favour.

I'm going to one this year! Never done it before but I have a wedding to go to on the Saturday and have a manic need to read the book beforehand!

Oh I hope they are good.

And take your ds, go on! Just plana bit of a lazy day afterwards and he can catch up on sleep.

We've gone along to our local book shop for the midnight release, all the staff dress up and they decorate the shop. My dd (12), loves it, the excitement of going into town late at night etc.

I have promised to take DD1 to our local bookshop. Now DD2 wants to come too and DD1 is FURIOUS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!

KTeePee · 15/06/2007 14:49

I have planned to take dd to our local bookshop on the high street but am now thinking the town centre is going to be full of drunks on their way home from the pub at that hour...am now wishing I had pre-ordered at the out-of-town bookshop that I could have driven to....

Blandmum · 15/06/2007 14:58

I've not bothered with the others, but I want to go in for this one, as it is the last. I haven't told DD. I'm going to wake her and take her in.

colditz · 15/06/2007 15:00

It comes out at midnight, yes? Tonight?

oooooh

Blandmum · 15/06/2007 15:03

No , not tonight! (I wish!)

MrsWho · 15/06/2007 20:01

I want to go but dd1 says its too far past her bedtime and I should take dd2 (don't think she would be reading it though )

When is it coming out? July sometime?

nannyogg · 15/06/2007 23:00

We don't have any bookshops near here , so I'll be going to 24 hour Asda or Tesco to get mine. I'm quite excited about it though - bet they'll have made the late night staff dress up as wizards and stuff...

nannyogg · 15/06/2007 23:01
