Have you been to a Harry Potter (or other) midnight book launch before? Is it worth the effort? Or is it a damp squib?

We are driving up to Oban (from SW Cumbria) on the Friday - so a long, tiring day. Then travelling by ferry to Mull the following day.

Ds1 (will be just 10) is a huge HP fan, and has read all the books several times. I was assuming he would go to a midnight book launch, as he'll be desperate for the book. But dh thinks it would be better for him to get a good night's sleep, so he's not cranky all holiday, and pick the book up first thing Sat am.

Well, schools break up here on the Friday so it is a perfect date as an end-of-term treat from my pov!

MrsWho · 16/06/2007 14:50

Think its better doing it at the end of term, teachers wouldn't stand a chance of getting anywork out of HP kids who would be reading the cbook continuously!

CuttingCod · 16/06/2007 14:51

so you go into a shopw iht a lot of adults dressed as withces

and the point is??????????????????

MrsWho · 16/06/2007 14:51

LL- Point me in direction of the thread when you start it as I very rarely check meet-ups

MrsWho · 16/06/2007 14:52

Cod-think its a party-thing

MaureenMLove · 16/06/2007 14:58

I was going to go, but its the last day of primary school for dd and I think I may be over the limit to drive by midnight! We're having a party. It would be a great end to the term though.

I entered a comp and won tickets to the midnight book signing at the natural history museum.Have just realised kids need to be 8 and my ds won't be till 4 weeks after

rosmerta · 21/06/2007 12:31

I would go but I'd feel a bit self-conscious being there without a dc (my ds would be 18m then and a bit too young!)

MorningtonCrescent · 21/06/2007 23:54

doobypoo - how will they know?

I have been at midnight for the past 3 books, and will be for this one to, and i dont go with any children, there are ALOT of adults so dont feel silly! or else just get in the que behind someone with alot of children and 'adopt' one for the night!!

To OP, you must let him go! like its been said, its the last chance! Also alot of children dress up, and its a whole 'experience' IYKWIM! oh i cant wait!!!
