I'm in love. Anyone else?

OP posts:
PerspicaciaTick · 27/09/2018 23:50

Yes.
I am jealous that you still have the whole series ahead of you.

MipMipMip · 28/09/2018 02:51

Brilliant book.

pumkinspicetime · 28/09/2018 02:59

Brilliant series, enjoy.

SD1978 · 28/09/2018 03:02

Yes, yes, yes. Adore this series. Would you like a few recommendations on a similar vein?

throughtheeyeofaneedle · 28/09/2018 03:36

I read this recently - I got it from Waitrose all wrapped up in brown paper as a 'blind date with a book' so had no idea what I was buying. Really enjoyed it!

SiolGhoraidh · 28/09/2018 04:07

I love this series. I'm waiting for the next novel to come out and in the meantime I'm reading the graphic novels

BookWitch · 28/09/2018 08:57

I read the first one and felt a bit meh. it was OK, felt I was missing something.
I fell it should be right up my street, so I might try again.

MarklahMarklah · 28/09/2018 08:59

Enjoyed all these so far.
SD I'd be interested in the recommendations. I try to read 50 books a year and am lagging right now.

chipsandgin · 28/09/2018 09:03

I loved this series, bought multiple copies for friends & family & banged on about it for months at the time -I’m also jealous you have the rest to go, especially the first few..

However, there was a massive gap (timewise) before the release of the most recent book, which I didn’t finish as it was really disappointing/rambling/didn’t seem to be tying up loose ends (some of the ongoing plot lines just seem to go on and on with no resolution/answers? Or is that just me?).

Has anyone read the whole series to date and found the most recent one worth persevering with!?

RiverTam · 28/09/2018 09:05

Love this series, did a reread of the whole lot recently, bliss! Rivers and Foxglove are my favourites.

milienhaus · 28/09/2018 09:07

Love it! The next one is coming out on 6 November too Grin

BevBrook · 28/09/2018 09:08

Well I love it. Hence the name. I also like The Magicians as a similar magic is real premise, although without the police element.

BevBrook · 28/09/2018 09:09

Have you read the graphic novels OP?

Asterado · 28/09/2018 09:10

I love these books.
As a Londoner (WC1/2 being my manor) living away from London, they make me terribly homesick!

little0miss0mac · 28/09/2018 09:10

I've listened to them all on Audible - brilliantly narrated.

PurpleWithRed · 28/09/2018 09:12

Ooh Millen, is it? Off to amazon to preorder...

SD1978 · 28/09/2018 10:13

@MarklahMarklah Paul Cornell- bit grittier London but great series. Jon Rosenberg. Also very similar and funny with a modern day London knowing nothing of the world beneath. Not quite the same, more action but a little in the same vein- Steve McHugh Avalon books. For funny fantasy take the rip- champions of the dragon- the epic fallacy. Takes the piss out of all the stereotypical hero wanderer books but in a very clever an non condescending way.

HopeClearwater · 28/09/2018 10:43

Love this series! The one set in the tunnels was very funny too.

CalonGlas · 28/09/2018 13:04

I absolutely loved the first London ones, which were packed with the most brilliant details, but I thought the one set on the Welsh border was.... not great, and since then, it feels as if Ben Aaronovitch is treading water for a big finish, while using material that should be going into the novels for the graphic novel spin-offs. I still love the conceit of the rivers being people, though.

MarklahMarklah · 28/09/2018 16:31

Thanks SD, I'll put those on the list.Grin

bluebump · 28/09/2018 16:33

Loved it, haven’t read the rest yet, must get around to it!

CheesePleaseLoueese · 28/09/2018 16:34

Loved it. I have pre-ordered the newest one

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 29/09/2018 08:51

I read the first one after someone on here recommended it and then I devoured the rest! Can't wait for the next one.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 29/09/2018 13:53

SD1978 thank you for those suggestions. I loved The Rivers of London and following, so happy for the recommendations. I’m packing to move house, so I’m the mood for something entertaining but not too taxing.

TattiePants · 29/09/2018 16:47

I love them too although I’ve only read the first two - DH is currently reading book 3. I bought books 4-6 very cheaply as a set from The Book People earlier this year.
