I'm in love. Anyone else?

I haven't yet seen the graphic novels. I do think they are absolutely begging to be made into a drama series, though.

One of the many, many things I love about them is that they get London geography right - a rare and beautiful thing!

You might enjoy this YouTube clip for Rivers of London. I think it's got the right atmosphere.

Thanks for the recommendations SD

Absolutely! Even down to the Brutalist blocks of flats at the Barbican.

I lent the first one to my late mother and I never got it returned to me after she died. I don’t even think she even got round to reading it. I’ve got a couple of others in print but considering getting them all on Kindle so I can reread but the thought of a mix of print and digital is making me twitch!

I think I read somewhere that they were first conceived as a potential TV series but when he couldn’t get anywhere with that BA reimagined them as books. I might be wrong though. I’m sure I have read somewhere he would have cast Paul McGann as Nightingale, but again it could just be my imagination and I am on an iPad and it is too difficult to Google.

That trailer is fantastic, except for the rap. I don't believe for a second that Peter Grant would rap.

I like the main ones. I feel a bit short changed by the short stories, so don't buy them.

LOVE this series, and wish i had enough money for the (spendy) graphic novels.
Similar london-urban fantasy i’ve loved: Kate Griffin’s Midnight Mayor series, Cornell’s London Falling series, and Mike Carey’s Felix Castor series. I wish they would all write more!

JeanPagett · 08/10/2018 19:02

Paul McGann would be perfect as Nightingale. I think the books would make a great tv show.

Thanks for the recommendations @GreenthoughtInAGreenShade I've struggled to find similar books done well.

For those who like accurate London geography and weird shit and crime, try the Bryant and May books by Christopher Fowler.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 08/10/2018 19:53

The actor/rapper in that clip looks pretty much as I imagine Peter Grant!

CoughArghCoughArghCough · 08/10/2018 22:06

Ooh that’s Ben Bailey Smith isn’t it! He’d be a great Peter Grant.
I have loved the Rivers Of London series. I follow Ben Aaronovitch on Twitter and he often asks questions about research he’s doing for the ones he’s currently writing. It’s interesting to try and figure out what’s going to be going on in them - although tbf all I can figure out is that an upcoming one looks to be set in Germany. Confused

Maladicta · 08/10/2018 22:13

Love them all, live v near where the novella The Furthest Station is set and he's got the detail about the location so spot on.

Iloveantiques · 27/10/2018 20:00

Samuel Anderson would be my Peter Grant
