I’m going to Greece for a week of pool, sun and reading... (in reality it’s chasing 5 & 7 year old with sun cream and asking DH to take a shift.. but I’d like to be prepared anyway!)

I really want some easy reading, enjoyable things. I love and have read probably all Linwood Barclay, Jodie Picoult and love them.

I’ve recently read Little Fires Everywhere, Good me Bad me, The Couple Next Door and Girl on The Train...

Any recommendations? Wine

Ruth Ware! I’ve just read a couple of her very very readable thrillers, which it turns out is possible without grisly delight in detailed scenes of torture etc.

MrsChollySawcutt · 18/07/2018 22:46

Sabine Durrant and Rachel Pinborough writes good non-grisly, thought provoking thrillers in a similar vein to The Girl On The Train.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/07/2018 10:33

Big Little Lies and What Alice Forgot by Lianne Moriarty.

Rachel’s Holiday is probably one of my favourite reads ever.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/07/2018 10:35

The Book of You.
He Said She Said.

Both creepy psychological thrillers. Not too gory.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 19/07/2018 10:37

Nicci French does some good standalone novels - I’m not so much of a fan of their Frieda Klein series but that’s because the character really annoys me...

CotedePablo · 19/07/2018 10:40

Just back from holiday and have been re-reading Stuart MacBride's books featuring Logan McRae - superb series.
Also enjoyed (and didn't expect to) The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell, who wrote Cloud Atlas, which will be my next book.

WinkysTeatowel · 19/07/2018 10:41

Just finished The Guilty Wife by Elle Croft and really enjoyed it, ideal holiday reading!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/07/2018 15:35

Ones I’ve enjoyed on holiday are:

Why Mummy Drinks
Eleanor Oliphant &
The Girl who saved the King of Sweden

As you are going to Greece, how about Madeline Miller’s new novel Circe?

margotsdevil · 19/07/2018 15:39

I'd second The Book if You, currently engrossed in it!

PlaymobilPirate · 19/07/2018 15:42

StripyPants · 23/07/2018 16:49

bellinisurge · 23/07/2018 17:04

Anything by Sara Paretsky

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 24/07/2018 04:47

Mary Stewart's romantic suspense novels set in Greece! My Brother Michael, This Rough Magic and one other who's title I forget.

Also, if you've not read them, anything by Elizabeth Peters. Her Night Train to Memphis is one of my very favourite comfort reads ever. I love her Amelia Peabody Egyptian novels, but my heart belongs to Vicky Bliss.

royguts · 30/07/2018 09:09

Try What's Left Unsaid by Deborah Stone. Good read about family who lie to each other

tripfiction · 01/08/2018 13:52

Maybe something light for the pool? How about The Greek Escape by Karens Swann, half set Manhattan, half Greece? It's just been recently published
