Recommend an author beginning with E

For mildly weird obsessive reasons, I need to read a book by an author whose surname begins with E. I am looking for something towards the lighter end of literary fiction (so not George Eliot). Twentieth century female writers particularly enjoyed.
Suggestions very gratefully received.

Dorothy Edwards - My Naughty Little Sister books!! (yes they are for little children but they are sweet stories)!!

Heratnumber7 · 02/03/2018 22:35

Enid Blyton

pimlicolife · 02/03/2018 22:37

Janet Evanovich!!!

bookmum I was trying to remember the name of that series last week, was driving me mad! Thank you! I remember reading them in hospital when I was a kid.

Umberto Eco
Emil Zola
E M Forster
Evelyn Waugh
Emily Brontë
George Elliott

There aren't many, are there?

Unemfuckingployable · 02/03/2018 22:40

I love Dorothy Edwards but read them fairly recently with DS. Enid Blyton’s surname doesn’t begin with E as far as I can tell. Don’t know Evanovich - will google.

Nora Ephron

Maybe just go to Waterstones and look at E in the fiction section??

StrumpersPlunkett · 02/03/2018 22:43

E Nesbit?

YouCantBeSirius · 02/03/2018 22:44

David Eddings if you like fantasy.

ScreamingLevitation · 02/03/2018 22:44

Elinor Lipman - The Pursuit of Alice Thrift

PanannyPanoo · 02/03/2018 22:45

Nicholas Evans

Unemfuckingployable · 02/03/2018 22:46

Beachy - I need to read NOW!
Nora Ephron - yes, good idea.
Umberto Eco - have read Name of the Rose and don’t really fancy Foucault’s Pendulum.
Maybe Anne Enright? - but I thought The Green Road laboured and not very interesting.

Not female but how about Ben Elton?

Lucked · 02/03/2018 22:46

Ben Elton! He has some great books at the lighter end of literary fiction.

Middlesex by Jeffrey eugenides.

Ginger1982 · 02/03/2018 22:47

Unemfuckingployable · 02/03/2018 22:47

Unemfuckingployable · 02/03/2018 22:55

Sorry to trespass further on generosity - but any standout Ben Elton recommendations? He’s written more than I realised.
