Recommend an author beginning with E

For mildly weird obsessive reasons, I need to read a book by an author whose surname begins with E. I am looking for something towards the lighter end of literary fiction (so not George Eliot). Twentieth century female writers particularly enjoyed.
Suggestions very gratefully received.

El Saadawi, Nawal. "Memoirs of a Woman Doctor" "Daughter of Eve" and many more. She is an Egyptian writer, feminist, activist, physician.

Kerstin Ekman: Blackwater (crime) or The Forest of Hours (historical fiction).

I really enjoyed Two Brothers

I hated (really, truly HATED) Two Brothers.

Yvvette Edwards - loved both her novels
Anne Enright
Janet Evanovich - v funny series (Stephanie Plum)

I enjoyed Chart Throb by Ben Elton

RomaineCalm · 02/03/2018 23:09

I was about to suggest Ben Elton. I have read all of his but really enjoyed Grid Lock, Dead Famous and Past Mortem.

RomaineCalm · 02/03/2018 23:10

Chart Throb was a good one as well!

Thank you all so much - some great suggestions here (And how could I not take the advice of someone called Crampton Hodnet?). I think I’ll start with Chart Throb.

Other Ben Elton’s books I enjoyed were Popcorn and High Society (DH and I still quote from Chart Throb!)

I've read all of Ben Elton's books and though I loved them at the time, I think his older books have dated quite a lot, they were very 'of the time'.

I absolutely adored his most recent book - Time And Time Again, one of my favourite reads of recent years.

snozzlemaid · 03/03/2018 15:55

Forgot about Time and Time again. That was great too.

Barbara Erskine is good

I second Janet Evanovich. Stephanie Plum series - very light and often hilarious. Start with "One for the Money".

Imogen Edwards-Jones - she writes the Babylon series (Hotel Babylon, Hospital Babylon etc.) among other books.

Kim Edwards - The Memory Keeper’s Daughter
