Please recommend something very, very fast-paced

Hello all! I read quite a lot. I'm open to anything and everything.

Have become much busier in recent weeks and this is likely to go on for some months.

I'd really appreciate recommendations for page-turners without too much extraneous detail (this makes a book harder to get into, for me) so I can continue to read.

What about things like The Help, The Lovely Bones, the Book Thief etc? There are also some high-quality teen books which make for good reading without a lot of effort, such as Malorie Blackman's Noughts and Crosses series.

I second 'I Am Pilgrim' for fast-paced.

The Power, by Naomi Alderman.

The Miniaturist is very good and if I recall, fairly fast-paced.

How about Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine? I thought it was a real page turner and finished it in two sessions!

Just finished An Almond For A Parrot. It's very rude but don't let that put you off. It is set in Regency England . It would be demeaning it to call it a bodice ripper but it is certainly a quick read. There's bit of a mystery to solve and some magic and some rakes and courtesans. And maypoles....

And agree that Eleanor Oliphant is a quick read.

I also loved This Is Going To Hurt. It genuinely did. (I'm also a doctor, some of it gave me horrible flashbacks!)

All the Jack Reacher books are a good engrossing read. Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan if you can handle some sci-fi. Plus the crime series by PJ Tracy

Re: The Miniaturist - was an amazing book and a very quick read for me too. So much better than the tv version, I thought that was pretty poor. Please don't watch it if you want to read the book, as half of the beauty of the book is that it's full of layers of secrets, sort of like a literary onion

The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat is brilliant.

The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of a Window and Disappeared is long but jaunty.

Yes, I like Sacks. Fascinating stuff.

Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer is very fast paced, reads like a film (I think it is being made into a film actually)

Stuff by Jane Fallon (chick lit) is what I read when I'm too busy to hold a story in my brain
