One Hundred Years of Solitude. It really does seem like a different book each time you read it.

craigglen · 07/01/2018 10:51

How funny Cooroo - Barchester Towers would be in my top ten but I hated Emma (had to read it for Eng Lit A level) and have never read another Jane Austen book since!

PinkietheElf · 07/01/2018 13:32

I read and loved Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd 25 years ago.

Haven't reread it but have read all of his books and love them.

A Certain Smile by Francoise Sagan

5foot5 · 15/01/2018 13:56

@Thirtyrock39
The future homemakers of America by Laurie graham (in fact anything by her)
I love Laurie Graham's books too and have read pretty much everything she has written.
I wondered if you had noticed that she has recently published a sequel to The Future Homemakers called The Early Birds The Early Birds which basically follows the same women in to old age. I loved it.

BestIsWest · 15/01/2018 18:29

Toss up between P&P and Rebecca. Probably P&P

VelvetGreen · 15/01/2018 19:29

The Master and Margarita

captainjackandjill · 15/01/2018 19:42

I was going to apologize for mine as it is in the middle of a series, but then I came across @Rhynswynd , yay it's mine too:

Nightwatch by Terry Pratchett, my number one fav and my go to book when I need a lift. Then I read the rest of the series, then go back to the beginning and start with Guards Guards and read them all again.

captainjackandjill · 15/01/2018 19:55

@bookbook great to see someone else who's read The Diary of Provincial Lady! So fun.

Has anybody else ever read The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery (author of Anne of Green Gables)?

essietopcoat · 16/01/2018 10:31

Agree about Barbara Vine - A Fatal Inversion was brilliant too.

Also A Time Travellers Wife,
Wild Swans,
Geisha by arthur Golden
The Handmaid's Tale, The Robber Bride, Alias Grace, Oryx and Crake

BestIsWest · 16/01/2018 11:17

Asta’s book is in my top 5 too.

pallisers · 16/01/2018 12:27

Private memoirs and confessions of a justified sinner.

captainjackandjill · 16/01/2018 17:35

Thank you @pallisers it's been a long time favourite of mine, but I have never met anyone else who's ever heard of it. Great to hear others have read it tooSmile. I think it's LMM's best work.

pallisers · 16/01/2018 17:52

I agree- that and the first Anne book.

We visited PEI this year - was lovely.
