Without a doubt, my favourite book, ever - The Woman in Black. I re-read it every other year, and always notice something new.

Depends on my mood, when things are tough Harry Potter series-I can immerse myself in them but as know what is going to happen not overly invested. Life on the outside settles too

Gone with the wind is always a good read but need to not be busy as always find it a page turner so need time

Pride and prejudice for when I am feeling warm and glowing

The moonstone or Woman in White when I like a bit of intrigue

Simple filling time, enjoyable series- hunger games

Probably
Any Human Heart by William Boyd. I love most of his books though.

Don't have an all time favourite but some stand outs from the past few years:

Americanah
Song of Achilles
The Hare with Amber Eyes
Education by Tara Westover
The Help

Can't wait to read The Kite Runner and Poisonwood Bible now - both in my TBR stash

Forgot to add Untold Stories by Alan Bennett - definitely an all time favourite

@cakemonger have you read Circe by Madeline Miller? I have read both recently and I LOVED Circe even more than Song of Achilles.

@PhoebefromFriends I haven't yet no (waiting for the paperback). Thrilled to learn it's just as good as Achilles. It doesn't seem to have had as much hype

Great thread.

If I had to only pick one it would Be Lord of the Rings.

If I could have 2 - Gone with the Wind.

Other than those two, I've read many of the ones already mentioned and added a few new ones to my amazon list.

Most recently, I've been re-reading Stephen King (hence my user name) and discovering some great fantasy authors like Robin Hobb and JV Jones.

Little Women and Good Wives. Read thousands of books but have never loved one as much as these.
Also developed a passion for War and Peace. Loved Pierre Basoukov!
Another is Great Expectations.
Also loved Gone With The Wind.
