I'm reading A slow passion-snails, my garden and me. It's non fiction, written by Ruth Brooks and describes her involvement in a citizen science project. I'm really enjoying it.Despite my massive 'to read' pile I'm wondering what others are reading at the moment!

The escape by C.L. Taylor

woollychimp · 23/06/2017 22:03

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry - I am enjoying it

user1493861080 · 25/06/2017 20:15

I'm reading Extra Virgin by Annie Hawes. Fantastic locations and characters....great escapism!

mindmyarse · 25/06/2017 20:34

Just finished The Hours by Michael Cunningham brilliant and very thought provoking I had not read Mrs Dalloway prior to reading this but I may well do so now. I have just picked up Jeffrey Archers first book in the Clifton chronicles it's been sitting on my shelf for so long

Re-read The Handmaid's Tale which I loved even more than when I read it at school.

Then The Circle, which I enjoyed as an easy read.

Have recently finished Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders. Loved it!! Honestly one of my favourite all timers. Can't stop thinking about it. Just started All the Light we Cannot see.

mnaddict1 · 28/06/2017 19:36

I'm
Reading my lovely wife by Mark lukach, it's a bio of his wife's mental illness and as a wife with mental illness it's both touching and sad for me. I highly recommend

Clalpolly · 28/06/2017 19:38

Thanks for the Lincoln suggestion. Also on my list now.

EmmaRoyd86 · 28/06/2017 20:48

Im also reading and loving the Essex serpent, is the first book I have read in quite a while (usually a school holiday treat!). Got 'The Power' by Naomi Alderman lined up next, looks really good. One review says it's like the hunger games meets the handmaid's tale. Love all that dystopian stuff so looking forward to it.

stumblymonkeyagain · 28/06/2017 21:16

I read The Essex Serpent on holiday and also loved it.

I'm now another person reading All The Light and so far I am very into it, only about a quarter of the way through but I love the use of the short chapters and find it hard to put down without keeping on thinking '...well, one more chapter won't hurt...'.

RMC123 · 28/06/2017 21:24

Stumbly. Loved The Essex Serpent and I am finding the short chapter structure of All the Light great too.

ElenaGreco123 · 05/07/2017 19:37

Widdershins by Helen Steadman.
I am only at the beginning though. It is about a healer / witch and a witch hunter or as the author says in the blurb: "Widdershins tells the story of the women who were persecuted and the men who condemned them".

After obsessively watching the Handmaid's Tale, I am totally in the mood for this.

WinterHoliday · 05/07/2017 21:47

I've just finished Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty today. It's the fourth of her books I've read. It took me a while to get into it (the build up to the main incident is too long in my opinion) but once I got into it I raced through the second half.

I may read The Essex Serpent next. I bought it on my kindle a while ago.

ElenaGreco123 · 05/07/2017 22:10

I liked the Essex Serpent, but I read it right before the Muse by Jessie Burton and This must be the place by Maggie O'Farrell both of which were more to my taste.

Naomi Alderman and Liane Moriarty go straight on my list.

RedastheRose · 05/07/2017 22:26

The Thirst by Jo Nesbo a good read but a long book and difficult to read if you can't keep at it.

Matilda2013 · 06/07/2017 16:00

The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood currently watching the tv show and I'm gripped so giving the book a go as well! Not normally the order i do these things!

user1467662525 · 06/07/2017 23:55

OH and I not getting on too well...he often gets very nasty when he talks to me and often swears and shouts. He never listens to me and I often have to repeat myself. Getting me down...

alltouchedout · 07/07/2017 10:43

Another one reading The Power by Naomi Alderman. In fact I really resent that I've had to come to work today, and have to go to leaving drinks at the end of the day, because I just want to finish it. I've got her The Liar's Gospel ready to go on my kindle as well.

Curlyshabtree · 07/07/2017 12:29

I'm reading The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood. So far, so good.

annandale · 07/07/2017 17:28

Just finished The Night in Question by Laurie Graham. Really enjoyed it but i always do like her books.

Looking forward to The Power and When You Are Engulfed In Flames.

strikealight · 07/07/2017 18:17

Ready Player One - Ernest Cline. Really enjoying it. Convinced by the world created within a couple of pages.

pasturesgreen · 07/07/2017 19:07

Liar Moon by Ben Pastor.

It's part of a series of detective novels set during and just before WW2 and I cannot recommend it enough. They're not your typical thriller as they have a strong introspective slant. A bit like the Luke McCallin ones in terms as setting, but actually plausible and miles better in terms of writing.

Have already got the next instalment in the series, Kaputt Mundi, waiting on my bedside table.

katsnmouse · 11/07/2017 15:50

Have just finished 'A god in ruins' by Kate Atkinson and half way through 'all the small things'. My to read pile is huge!

Thanks for the Ben Pastor tip. Never heard of him before-just my thing

woollychimp · 11/07/2017 22:20

Ordinary Thunderstorms by William Boyd, very enjoyable although there are a few plot unlikelihoods that you have to ignore.
