I'm reading A slow passion-snails, my garden and me. It's non fiction, written by Ruth Brooks and describes her involvement in a citizen science project. I'm really enjoying it.Despite my massive 'to read' pile I'm wondering what others are reading at the moment!

I recently finished Uglies by Scott Westerfeld (YA dystopian fiction) and have restarted Marking Time by Elizabeth Jane Howard (Cazalets). By restarted I mean I was reading it, put it down and picked up something else, and now picked it up again. This happens to me all. the. time.

'After the Fall' by Noah Hawley

It's brilliant so far.

FloralCouchPants · 31/05/2017 03:30

Come Hell Or Highballs, a mystery novel set in the 1930s. I'm waiting for Welcome to Night Vale to come in though which I'm very excited to read.

FloralCouchPants · 31/05/2017 03:31

Toffee if you like how Scott Westfield wrights, read his Midnighters series. It's brilliant. He's one of my favorite authors

saladsmoothie · 31/05/2017 03:57

I'm reading I Am Malala because 11yo dd wants to read it and I wasn't sure how upsetting it might be, so I said I'd read it first and then we'd be able to chat about it together. Am only at the start and so far it's charmingly written and she comes across as a very likable young woman.

Nandocushion · 31/05/2017 03:59

The Luminaries. It's good but a bit of a slog.

hellokittymania · 31/05/2017 04:19

I just started reading this is just my face by one of the actresses in precious.

mindmyarse · 31/05/2017 06:18

Currently two books on the go A World in Disarray very interesting and current and filling in gaps in my knowledge of recent world history or maybe I should say foreign policy My school history finished at the start of WW1 and I have decided to try to educate myself especially in the light of current affairs , so I decided to keep a lighter read on the side have just started THe Hours !!! Not sure if it's what I would define as a light read Hmm

nigelsbigface · 31/05/2017 06:56

I am reading The Witch Finders Sister by Beth Underwood. I gave up on The Essex Serpent which is also about witch hunting so I didn't think I'd like this, but so far it's very good.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2017 09:49

'The Essex Serpent' isn't about witches.

Nando - The Luminaries is a massive slog and, personally, I didn't think that the ending was worth the slog. Would be interested to hear what you think of it.

SplitInfinitive · 31/05/2017 10:10

I don't recall any witches in The Essex Serpent either Confused. Just some good story telling and fine writing. Are you muddling it with another recent read, nigel?

ProseccoBitch · 31/05/2017 10:48

I'm reading Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh. It's not really my kind of thing but it was on offer for 99p as a kindle book and it's mildly amusing but it's not making me want to get home to read it. I'm still in mourning for the Poldark books having recently read the whole series, I really miss them. Going for Penmarric by Susan Howatch next.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2017 10:52

I really enjoyed 'Decline and Fall'. Thought it was v funny.

Lessthanaballpark · 31/05/2017 10:52

The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle. Making me want to go and live on a remote Scottish island for the rest of my days and wear fair isle jumpers Grin

katsnmouse · 31/05/2017 11:27

I loved Essex serpent, I guess you could say there was a bit of a 'witch hunt' element to it, or 'other worldly' element at least.

I meant sort of supernatural I think rather than witchy.i was up early this morning!

tormentil · 31/05/2017 14:28

Richard Flanagan - Narrow Road to the Deep North.
I'm not really enjoying it - there seem to be two separate stories: a love story and a prisoner of war story and the link between them seems very weak. I don't know why it has so many accolades.

nigelsbigface · 31/05/2017 14:29

Oh I liked narrow road to the deep north... bit slow maybe...

hellokittymania · 31/05/2017 14:45

I read the narrow road to the deep north last year, but couldn't get through it all the way.

BorisTrumpsHair · 31/05/2017 14:51

I don't have much time to read and I really miss it. So I have started listening to audio books as I walk to and from work and it is amazing. 45min each way = approx 360 minutes reading a week.

I'm just about to finish Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I've decided to let one book lead me to the next (subject to availability on the libraries audio book supply) and will go to Graham Greene next.

MumBod · 31/05/2017 14:56

I'm reading The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman, about female prizefighters in the 18th Century.

It's brilliant. If you loved The Crimson Petal and the White or Fingersmith you will love it.

GandolfBold · 31/05/2017 14:57

Just starting The Women In The Castle by Jessica Shattuck. Seems really good so far.

TattiePants · 31/05/2017 16:20

I'm a couple of chapters into Fingersmith, Sarah Waters but it hasn't grabbed me yet. Tempted to go and raid the boot of my car as had a trip to scotlands 2nd hand book town earlier and have another 10 books to add to my TBR pile.

MumBod · 31/05/2017 16:21

Stick with it, Tattie!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 31/05/2017 16:23

I couldn't finish Narrow Road. So boring.
