Angels & Demons is excellent - features Robert Langdon again but I think it's set before The Da Vinci Code.

I loved The Da Vinci Code. I thought the ideas behind it were fab, and the fact that the 'holy grail' is found (not giving too much away!) was satisfying.

i mentioned it before on a previous 'good read'thread. some people can get terribly snobby about bestsellers and the naff cover doesn't help but its such a fascinating book. if you are looking for other good thrillers: 'the mind game' by hector macdonald; 'the fingersmith' by sarah walters; 'the magus' by john fowles; the alienist' by caleb carr and my all time favourite 'the count of monte cristo' by alexander dumas. happy reading

So please there is a film being made! I thought it was brilliant and was completely absorbed by it. For anyone who enjoyed the subject matter as much as the story itself - try Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. It's been out years and was a bit of a best seller at the time but it's brilliant.

I read it at the same time as reading "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" whilst on holiday in the Cathar region of France - all completely by coincidence and it was the spookiest thing ever.

I just came back from holiday, which is always my time to catch up on good books. Da Vinci code was by far the best of the books I read. It has so many twists and turns - some you can guess, others not - that it is very exciting. It's also a bit more intelligent than some of the bestseller type books. An Equal Music by Vikram Seth was my next favourite. Not going away again for a while, so the pile 'to be read' will just keep growing again!

I've just finished it and I thought it was a good page turner but bits of it annoyed me.
From time to time he makes his protagonists really thick - takes them pages to figure out something which is obvious immediately - like a harvard professor of symbology and a cryptologist who has been brought up doing puzzles being unable to spot an anagram! Please............
He also puts in rather stilted conversations in order to give you information. So the two experts explaining things to Sophie in order to explain them to the reader can sound a bit like one of those ads where two supposed friends talk about their washing powder in that "yes, and the antibacterial enzyme compound is wonderful for little Johnny's grass satins" type way.
So a good holiday read but not a "great" book by any means.

sponge - yes parts were frustrating. though it is the best book i've read this year. the annoying thing is you have to read maybe 20 ok books to get a really good one. what are your great reads?

the great thing about this book to me was not the writing in itself, although the short chapters and "not giving too much info too soon" really build up the suspense and add to the effect...but the beauty of it was the story! the secret societies, the anagrams, the puzzles, the thoeries about religion - just brilliant!
i also read angels and demons, and yes, it is very much in the same line with the dvc, again about religion, again anagrams and secret societies...but the story is just as gripping and interesting.

I bought the four books of his in Asda for only £3.73 each so was well chuffed. Have just started Da Vinci and am already gripped. I am not a big thriller fan but I do like this style.

I don't normally read thrillers but was reccomended this by a friend. It was such a page turner, and a debate starter!!

Have read Digital Fortress which was OK but not as good as The Da Vinci Code which I read in about 2 days!

Now got Angels and Demons to read as a friend tells me this one is as good as The Da Vinci Code.

The Da Vinci Code was sooooo interesting! Couldn't put it down and kids got quite neglected

Know what sponge means though - even I worked out some of the clues that were glaringly obvious particularly one right near the end - it was so obvious it was untrue!

Still loved it though

i finsihed at the weekend and really enjoyed it1 the more you read, the more you have to read. have persuaded dh to read it too

I found it very gripping too, thought it was very well researched and put together but rather poorly written. I was constantly stopping to re-read sentences and thinking that they were very badly constructed and rather cumbersome. You have to be able to ignore that to really enjoy this book I think. I just about managed. DH didn't.

CD - i felt the same as you but dh is picking up on some of the 'badly written' bits that yuo mention. For me, the cleverness of the plot meant i ignored the language slightly
