In case anybody is interested, I have just ordered and paid for the new harry potter book in Woolworthe. They are only charging £9.99 for it and you can collect it from the store if you order it. It is one of the cheapest prices I've seen it offered at.

ahh, now snape only killed dumbledore cos he had to or else his cover as a 'death eater' would have been blown and he would have been killed. dumbledore knew there were worse things than dying (he says in philosopher's stone 'to the well organised mind, death is but the next great adventure') and therefore snape would have probably known he could kill anyone he had to except Harry to make sure his cover was not blown. Nice theory about him being in love with Lily! handn't twigged that one but I like it!

princesscc · 02/03/2007 09:41

Didn't Peter Pan say death was a big adventure? Oh no hold on - he said life was a big adventure!

Ali5 · 02/03/2007 09:47

Love the Snape theory. Always thought he was a goody. Do think H will die in destroying V though. He could become a teacher though - although that's a bit Top Gun isn't it?

Steward · 02/03/2007 09:49

JK Rowling did say the way she has written the book, it will mean nobody will be able to do any HP spin off books. I hope she doesn't kill Harry but predict she will.

i actually can't see how harry can kill voldemort without taking himself down too, he is a teenage boy with limited experience of any magic and voldemort is, well powerfull and evil with loads of evil experience!

becklespeckle · 02/03/2007 09:52

wonder if it will come down to their wands in the end tho as they both contain feathers from Fawkes?

finknottle · 02/03/2007 09:57

Anyone read the article about Daniel Radcliffe (sp?) where he said Jo Rowling came down to the film set (Order of P) because she was "having trouble with Dumbledore" and Dan said something like, "But isn't he dead?"?

Made me wonder if Dumbledore wasn't really dead but wizarded-only-looked-it dead. Am I clutching at straws?

becklespeckle · 02/03/2007 09:58

not sure Harry will become a teacher if he survives though - he wants to be an auror - bet he could charge top whack for it too "employ the auror who destroyed the greatest dark wizard of all"...hmmm think I have too much time on my hands!!!

Ali5 · 02/03/2007 09:59

But that's been done already - she can't use that again surely? I've always got the impression Harry is more powerful than he knows, so maybe some sort of deep magic thing will protect him and see off V?

saltire · 02/03/2007 10:10

I think Dumbeldore is definately dead. She may use his portrait though, remember they had significance when Mr Weasley was attacked. Or, he may come back as ghost, but in one book Headless Nick said only those who fear death can be ghosts (or words to that effect), and i don't think Dumbeldore was scared to die.
I think she will kill harry off, although i hope she doesn't. If she really doesn't want spin offs done then it's the only way.
I read somewhere that we find out the significance of Lily's green eyes as well. Also, I think Percy Weasley is either under the Imperious curse, or was asked by Dumbledore to "fake" an argument with his family so he could get information from the Ministry.
I obviously have too much time on my hands

becklespeckle · 02/03/2007 10:15

Saltire - another with too much time - hoorah! Hmm, don't think it will be the same thing with the wands but maybe some significance! wonder if Voldemort will get a new one after what happened with his one? Definately think Dumbledore dead, he would not like to be a ghost but like the theory about his portrait - reckon fawkes will reappear at some point too.

Steward · 02/03/2007 10:18

It was confirmed Dumbledore is dead.

I am wondering if Lily's sprited is within Harry and that is why he has the same eyes as her.

OP posts:
becklespeckle · 02/03/2007 10:20

could be! there is a lot on emphasis on his eyes being the same as his mother's isn't there - oooh I love theroies!

saltire · 02/03/2007 10:23

I also think that Malfoy will turn good in the end. My theory is that something will happen which threatens his mother, and the only way to save her will be to involve Harry.
Remember that Malfoy was instructed by Voldemort to kill Dumbeldore, but couldn't do it. Snape did it instead, but the other Death eaters who were there will possibly tell Voldemort that Malfoy didn't do the job he was tasked with. So V tries to hurt Narcissa.

finknottle · 02/03/2007 10:24

I like the Dumbledore portrait idea too.

Re killing Harry off so no one else can use the character, what about copyright?

saltire · 02/03/2007 10:27

There is a good thread
here

saltire · 02/03/2007 10:28

In fact there are quite a few threads, many of which have good theories on. I actually emailed MN HQ ages ago asking if they would have JK Rowling in for a live chat. Think that would be great

princesscc · 02/03/2007 10:29

I think this thread is hilarious! Who'd have thought that mn could produce 62 posts and counting on a childrens book! I am really enjoying it and I am as guilty as the rest of you!!

Steward · 02/03/2007 10:30

Definalty think Hagrid will do the magic?

OP posts:
Steward · 02/03/2007 10:32

How amazing a children's book and it's future plot gets us talking. Can not wait for the book to come out so that the theories will stop and all the answers will be revealed

OP posts:
saltire · 02/03/2007 10:33

I think it will be Filch -to save the school, or Mrs figg - to save someone else, or possibly Hagrid, who will do the magic "late in life and under desperate circumstances", which i think is the quote JKR used.

Notquitegrownup · 02/03/2007 10:38

Princesscc - you were right first time - Peter Pan did say that to die would be an awfully big adventure.

becklespeckle · 02/03/2007 10:40

Think Malfoy is a coward - not sure if he will turn good though. Almost forgot Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail)! He is in Harry's debt isn't he cos Harry spared his life?! Wonder where he fits in...

Ali5 · 02/03/2007 10:40

But Hagrid has already done some magic, in the first book with the umbrella, so it must be someone else otherwise it wouldn't be such a big issue.

MadamePlatypus · 02/03/2007 10:41

I'd love to have JK in for a live chat - she can talk about babies and Harry Potter - it could go on for days!
