Paul Finch, the no.1 bestselling author of Hunted and Stalkers, has written an even darker thriller. PC Lucy Clayburn has to delve into the criminal underworld to track down a brutal serial killer, but she's about to discover that going undercover is the most dangerous work there is.

I was hooked as soon as I picked it up. It was fast moving and had me on edge the whole way through. Definitely an author I would look out for again.

This book is amazing, right up my street, I just loved the action and the suspense... I was glued to it with all my spare time :)

iamsaranna · 10/11/2016 21:29

Great read, found the characters really engaged me, can;t wait for the next one.

multiplemummy · 10/11/2016 21:57

Brilliant book & very addictive once you start reading it!!
I particularly loved the fact that it's set in Manchester which is my lovely home town although it slightly unnerved me too!!!
Very gritty, very gruesome & full of twists & turns!!! Thought I had the "plot" sussed out from the first few pages but how wrong I was!
Well recommended read!! Thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Tartyflette · 10/11/2016 22:21

I started reading this book but found it clumsily written and frankly unbelievable. The female serial killer trope just didn't work for me.
I also found some of the desciptions clunky and weird for example the author described a character as having an afro hairstyle which was also backcombed and braided. How on earth would that work three hairstyles in one! And a pencil dress (i.e. lean, uncluttered silhouette) which was also backless and with a gathered waist. Errm -- like an old-fashioned dirndl skirt? And exactly unlike a pencil dress? Small points but irritating and it made me feel the writer was frankly a bit clueless.
Also, more seriously, I felt there was a strong undercurrent of misogyny running through the book. I am struggling with finishing it.

beckyinman · 10/11/2016 23:05

Was pretty bloody!

cbruin111 · 10/11/2016 23:28

Looking forward to reading this one!

ftovey7 · 11/11/2016 07:20

This is one of those books I just could not put down!
It really grabbed me!
It takes you on a terrifying journey of an undercover PC called Lucy working on a case of a murderer that butchers anyone who crosses the line.
Can't wait for the next one.

phillie1 · 11/11/2016 10:51

finding it hard to get into this book, and debating whether to give up on it

Julieguy · 11/11/2016 23:42

Unfortunately I haven't read this book yet, but it sounds a really good read.

stefalfie11 · 12/11/2016 00:09

Picked this up at the supermarket and have to say that it was gripping from start to finish and i found i really enjoyed it which doesnt normally happen with "who dunnit" books!

sweir1 · 12/11/2016 13:01

I have just started it. So far so good!

Marg2k8 · 12/11/2016 18:47

I haven't read it, but it looks good.

claza93 · 12/11/2016 20:18

Gripping! A real page turner

Cailin7 · 12/11/2016 20:32

I read Strangers a couple of months ago, and it felt like forever since Paul Finch's last book. I was therefore looking forward to it with excitement and just a bit of trepidation as I knew it did not have my favourite character DS Heckenburg in it. But it was great, had me hooked and was just as dark as the Heck books. PC Lucy Clayburn has a fresh naivety while being so doggedly determined. A great detective in the making. Hope we get to read more of her, but looking forward to Ashes to Ashes next year.

WhatevsBob · 13/11/2016 18:13

Thanks for my copy Mumsnet!

This is not a book I would normally touch. I'm a police officer and usually find books about the British police infuriating. I also don't like anything too gruesome and violent.

I have to say that I enjoyed it though. I only found myself saying 'well THAT wouldn't happen' once, when she managed to get someone charged within a couple of hours of arrest. I understand that completing hours of paperwork probably has no place in a fast paced thriller though Wink

It was gripping, fast paced, not wholly believable, exciting and I wanted to finish it. It was gruesome and violent but not excessively so. I won't be seeking out any more of his books but I really would recommend it for anyone that enjoys this genre. Four stars from me!

xenoyia6060 · 14/11/2016 21:49

I love a good crime story and this is a good one. Undercover cop looking to find a female serial killer. This is a fast paced roller coaster of a story that is gripping and very enjoyable :)

grannybiker · 15/11/2016 10:07

A real "Can't put it down until I've finished," read, so probably best for a childfree weekend!
