It's bloody rubbish

A new novel by an author I have always rated. Chic lit but usually quite good. But I am 43% through it and I don't think I can finish it.

This is a heavyweight author by the way.

Aibu to be really disappointed? And want to unfollow her on fb? I used to devour her stuff in a couple of sittings. I am now going to download the next book in a series recommended on here instead.

I used to finish all books I started, now I find that life's just too damn short and won't finish a book, even if it's by my favorite author, if it's a bad one.

Pick your fights, be choosy, really life is too short, heavyweight author or not.

I've started giving up on ones I just don't care about. Too many good books out there instead!

It's the Jane Green one, Fallen.

Waited for months for it to come out. I used to love her stuff. But with hindsight the last few have been a bit meh. Years ago I read and reread her stuff.

I don't know if it's her stuff that has changed or my taste. I still do enjoy a bit of chiclit. Just read the new Lisa Jewel one and really enjoyed it. So I still like the genre I suppose.

But am enjoying the Susan Hill series much more.

I do feel guilty when I don't finish a book. But time is so precious these days that I am not wasting anymore time on it.

Don't think I've read anything by Jane Green, but glad you like Susan Hill - she's a favourite author of mine.

She can have Jane Greens spot on my list of favourites! Am really enjoying her stuff.

I have recently read the Shetland and Vera stuff by Ann Cleeves and loved those too. I think perhaps my taste is changing as I get older. I found the Jane Green book quite boring and self indulgent. Lots of references to fashion and interior design and it really spoils the flow of the book.

I went off Jane Green when she started having all her main characters moving to Nantucket and finding themselves, as she herself did. I stopped reading her a while back. I still re-read Jemima J and Mr Maybe though.

I love JJ and Mr Maybe. And also Babyville! They are 2 of.my favourite ever books. Which is why I have been loyal to her. But as you say most of her recent stuff involves Nantucket. And interior design and poncy cooking. It's like reading Nigella vs Interior Designs magazine. Narrated by Charlotte from SATC.

It's not for me. I can't relate to the characters anymore and I used to want to be Jemima J!

I'm going to recommend Fiona Collins who writes fabulous intelligent chick lit.

I love her new book, here. She's very funny and I think she's getting better with each book.

I've found Jane Green getting very samey as well - is her last one about an alcoholic? I stopped reading after a short while on that one.

I read Jane Green's book before Fallen & liked it but some of hers are better than others I think.

I'd get the most recent one, Cloudy with a chance of Love. It came out this month.

Have you read any of Julia Heaberlins? I've just finished all three of hers and they were good, real page turners.

Totally agree re Jane Green. I adored Straight Talking and Babyville. But now she just seems to be churning out rubbish.

I haven't Lumpy! Will add her to the list to have a look at.

So glad it's not just me that thinks she has gone off the boil.
