Set aside the Gina, silence the baby-whisperers and shelve the Jo Frost manuals. This is the book to make new mothers feel better about themselves.

No tips, no advice, no routines, no philosophies - just an honest account of two writers' adventures in the twenty-first century Motherland.

Alex and Sarah are two mothers and lifelong friends, whose hilarious book is the perfect antidote to all the smug, scolding, impossible-to-achieve tomes of advice that are passed around baby yoga classes up and down the country.

I never thought I'd co-sleep but my daughter ends up in our bed most nights! :) It's quite cosy though! :)

cookiemonster66 · 22/02/2016 17:23

I thought I would never turn into my own Mother! Until the day I walked into my daughters bedroom, saying "Look at the state of this room!" I knew then it was a slippery slope!

CordeliaScott · 22/02/2016 17:26

I never thought I would eat food that had previously been in someone else's mouth but DD is very insistent upon sharing!

Bebelala21 · 22/02/2016 17:28

I never thought I'd find myself sat on a toilet breastfeeding whilst making up a story for my toddler. I had a bad stomach and the toddler was going through a clingy phase.

HettyD · 22/02/2016 17:30

I never thought I would be quite so knowledgeable about Star Wars! I have two boys who are obsessed!! Every discussion in my house seems to focus upon this and so I am now able to discuss (at length) the relative successes and failures of various Jedi. Mind you, a step up from Fireman Sam!!

Papergirl1968 · 22/02/2016 17:32

I never thought I would consider our regular Saturday trip to McDonalds the highlight of my week!

slev · 22/02/2016 17:38

I never thought I'd spend my evenings discussing the merits of various dragons - and at great length. Dragon Mania Legends has a lot to answer for!

Quietvoiceplease · 22/02/2016 17:39

I never, ever thought I'd become so blasé about poo. Pre-children, I would actually slightly, privately, gag if someone changed their child's nappy within eyeshot of me. Post-baby? The low point was probably the smear of baby poo on my sleeve that simply got covered with my cardigan until bedtime. Just too tired to bother changing outfit just because of one poo stain!

Footofthestairs · 22/02/2016 17:41

Never thought i'd ever be so interested in the bodily functions of another human being, or be responsible for the wiping up, washing up and clearing up of said bodily functions .... for years .... and do it for more than one little human.

elf1978 · 22/02/2016 17:42

I never thought, when pressed for room in my handbag, I would remove my make-up bag to make way for baby wipes!

Mumag4ches · 22/02/2016 17:44

I never thought I'd be able to hide my own fears (especially the dentist) from my children so that they are confident in areas i'm not!

JoGregory · 22/02/2016 17:48

So many things....know all the names to.every character in every cartoon is their FAVOURITE, hide in the toilet to eat chocolate just so I get to eat it, explain why mummy has 'fluff' not a willy, pick someone elses nose, use cotton wool buds to ease someone's constipation.....the list goes on.

sjonlegs · 22/02/2016 17:51

Never eat a hot meal myself .. but frequently eat what they've left,
I'm fast turning into my mother - don't run, don't shout - I'm not deaf!
I'm a glorified taxi-driver,
They frequently watch what they shouldn't,
And sometimes - don't ask why,
No matter how hard I try,
They do do rule the roost when they shouldn't!!

I never thought I'd give up 20 hours of my week to ferry the dc around their various clubs and sports. That is just the travelling time! Plus the hours spent on the sidelines trying to look enthusiastic and following the score when I had no interest in spectator sports before.

gBean · 22/02/2016 17:56

I never thought I'd pick a bogey out of someone else's nose without vomiting.

StickChildNumberTwo · 22/02/2016 18:17

I never thought I'd sniff my child's bum to check for poo....

FoxInABox · 22/02/2016 18:21

I never thought I would check my child's poo for worms!

ShouldHaveStayedHome · 22/02/2016 18:22

I never thought I'd be ok with having an audience whilst on the toilet.

KeepOnPlodding · 22/02/2016 18:29

I never thought I would be standing at the side of the road trying to catch a poo in a carrier bag! Blush

hermancakedestroyer · 22/02/2016 18:36

I never thought I could get so tearful watching my Dcs in assemblies!

Jenni2legs · 22/02/2016 18:41

I never thought I'd be proud to see 'bits' in someone else's poop! 'Oooh look she DID eat some blueberries!!'

gazzalw · 22/02/2016 18:43

As a die-hard socialist I never thought that I would consider 'elitist' grammar school education for my own children. But we have done so - DC1 is currently at one, and we are just about to start 11+ prep with DC2. Blush

Mozarmstrong · 22/02/2016 18:53

I never knew I could be such a light sleeper its like hearing a pin drop. Only mum's hear this me thinks as hi by carries on snoring .

MrsSpa · 22/02/2016 19:00

I never thought I'd struggle to sleep once DS started sleeping through occasionally...

lucyanntrevelyan · 22/02/2016 19:04

I never thought I would ever watch a football match standing on the side of a muddy pitch in the howling rain, but that is now my weekend activity. Plus I know far more about the Barclays Premier League than I ever want too!
