Defy Blue Monday by sharing the secrets to your happiness for a chance to win a copy of Lucy Diamond's new novel The Secrets of Happiness plus a fabulous Sheer Bliss Pamper Hamper

What is the secret of happiness? Family? Love? Endless chocolate? Stepsisters Rachel and Becca certainly aren’t experts. They've never been close and seem to live perfectly opposite lives - Rachel has the house, husband and kids, while Becca lurches from one dead-end job and bad date to another. But when Rachel doesn't come home one night, Becca realises that her life isn't as perfect as she'd thought, and when the two stepsisters are thrown together, they discover that happiness, like love, can hide in the least likely of places.

Lucy Diamond is the bestselling author of Summer at Shell Cottage. You can find her on Twitter and Facebook.

This discussion is sponsored by Pan Macmillan and will end on 15 February. We will post the winner on the thread on that date.

Try to find one positive thing every single day - it can be small such as finding £1 in your pocket or hitting green lights on the way to work or something that makes you grateful - a near miss, seeing someone worse off than yourself etc.

I spent all of last year trying to find one positive thing or one thing that made me happy or grateful each day - I recorded it on my blog and reading back on it makes me smile - most days it was small and simple things that had the biggest impact

Happiness is being with my son's! Playing games or snuggled on the sofa watching a film!

I have a husband who loves me, four children, 3 dogs and 9 cats and that to me is everything I need to be happy. I have a back condition which means I am in constant pain and am in the process of getting a wheelchair but when I look at all the horror and tragedy throughout the world, I thank God for all the good things he has given me.

Make sure you make some me time at least once a week when you can catch up with friends for a coffee and a good gossip.

Having a near miss makes you let stuff go that used to bother you.

The secret to happiness is to realise what is important to you and aim for that. Don't follow anyone else's dream. If things and expensive holidays make you truly happy then aim for that but if time spent with your family and the simple things like walking the dogs or days at the beach make you happy then get a job that maybe pays less but allows you to do that. Happiness is dependant on each individual so don't do what is expected of you. Do what truly makes you happy xx

Happiness is many things: smiling with the children, exercising the dogs, making a relatives day by visiting and caring, the sun shining and enjoying being alive.

I think the best thing to do, is to be kind to yourself, don't think that you are not good enough. You are! :)

accepting that one can not be happy constantly but to be content with what you have and your life and strive for those moments of pure happiness that you can only get when you are content with the rest of your life x

The things which make me happy include chatty meals round the dining table with the family, walks in the park or on the beach, a relaxing bath, a banana which is at the perfect level of ripeness that I like, and my DH (well most of the time!).
