Defy Blue Monday by sharing the secrets to your happiness for a chance to win a copy of Lucy Diamond's new novel The Secrets of Happiness plus a fabulous Sheer Bliss Pamper Hamper

What is the secret of happiness? Family? Love? Endless chocolate? Stepsisters Rachel and Becca certainly aren’t experts. They've never been close and seem to live perfectly opposite lives - Rachel has the house, husband and kids, while Becca lurches from one dead-end job and bad date to another. But when Rachel doesn't come home one night, Becca realises that her life isn't as perfect as she'd thought, and when the two stepsisters are thrown together, they discover that happiness, like love, can hide in the least likely of places.

Lucy Diamond is the bestselling author of Summer at Shell Cottage. You can find her on Twitter and Facebook.

This discussion is sponsored by Pan Macmillan and will end on 15 February. We will post the winner on the thread on that date.

Think of your glass as always half-full and encourage your partner to do the same. Be more tolerant of others' views and don't sweat the small stuff.

Show your other half that you care and don't take anyone for granted.

Family, friends, good food, good books, wine and chocolate! :)

It is the little things: walking the dog on the crisp, frosty morning, and spotting the birds. Making a proper cup of coffee with freshly ground beans. Enjoying leisurely weekend breakfast of freshly made waffles, reading the papers. And so on:-)

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 20/01/2016 14:27

Spending time with family and friends doing things you're all enjoying and no one is moaning or crying.

purplepandas · 20/01/2016 16:24

The happiness found in small things. Taking the time to appreciate that. Clean sheets. A cup of coffee in peace.

Wassat · 20/01/2016 18:01

Appreciating the small things- the crunch of frost under my feet, the clear sun shining, my children playing nicely!

SerenityReynolds · 20/01/2016 18:31

At the end of each day, think of something you can be thankful for - be it food on the table, family etc.

OhPuddleducks · 20/01/2016 18:36

Don't worry about what might happen, don't dwell on what has happened, just concentrate what is happening right now.

Dharling · 20/01/2016 18:39

Every day we have a choice: wake up and make our dreams come true or carry on sleeping with them. In the morning I choose something that helps me more towards my dreams. That way it's not just work and routine. At the end of the day my husband and I talk through a thing that went really well and what could have been better (highlight and lowlight of our day). This helps us bring happiness into the everyday.

Happiness to me is time spent with the few people close to me, visits or meals with friends and family, snuggles with the cat, a nice to-be-read pile of books. It also makes me feel happy to feed the garden wildlife daily and to take an interest in the lives of the various birds, squirrels, and Alfie the fox and his little family; I always find some comfort, something beautiful or amazing in nature. Fingers crossed.

Happiness it a lovely clean tidy home, everything in order, a nice dinner in the oven a pudding cooked already to reheat and then sitting down in peace and quiet for 20 minutes until the family start to arrive home

leanneth · 20/01/2016 20:03

My family make me happy. My children are amazing and I love watching them learn new things every day. I take so many photos og the adventures we have. They are growing up so fast!

anonooo · 20/01/2016 20:04

Happiness is mostly visible when it is gone. So perhaps it is elusive and we need to look harder to find it in everyday calm, family love, beautiful.things.

Alison18 · 20/01/2016 20:19

Just appreciate what you have and when things are to much just remember theres always someone worse off.

MiddleClassProblem · 20/01/2016 20:28

Hot bath and some wine (and more than 4hrs sleep!)

HelenSw4les · 20/01/2016 20:51

Live for the moment and enjoy the simple things that happen each day, don't look back!

gazzalw · 20/01/2016 21:33

Singing, watching my football team play, snuggling up with my children of an evening (with a Wine).

Theimpossiblegirl · 20/01/2016 22:00

Spread a little happiness by doing something kind for someone every day. You never know the difference a small act of kindness can make to someone.

Getting in to your pajamas as soon as you get home.

Having no spots and a good hair day.

Plans actually falling into place. For once.

Healthy children. Healthy you. Healthy dh.

Money in your pocket.

Money in your bank.

A home you love.

Central heating.

Hot food.

Tea.

Whatsapp and FaceTime.

Believing in God.

mazgoli · 21/01/2016 01:13

Chocolate, cup of coffee, good book and putting my feet up.

spiroo · 21/01/2016 05:31

Good book and load of cuppas Brew Brew Brew

icklekid · 21/01/2016 05:43

Focus on the positives each day being thankful and tell others how much we appreciate and love them, make someone elses day by doing something thoughtful (even a text often makes a big difference) and an early night when a day hasn't gone to plan!

Dolallytats · 21/01/2016 08:23

A soak in the bath with a good book followed by comfy PJ's and fresh clean bedding to slip into.

On a bigger scale my family are my favourite people in the whole world.

ohlittlepea · 21/01/2016 08:55

Being present in the moment....it especial my helps if that moment is full of chocolate and rainbows, but even being present doing the washing up can be ok...if you are not having to scrape.burnt on beans off of something..
