Is a kindle deal of the day at 99p. (Sat June 20th)

It's her second book & I didn't enjoy it very much & many people felt the same.

But, it's so cheap that you might want to give it a go!

Hi, magi Smile

I don't like to say it out loud, but I did not really enjoy The Goldfinch all that much - well written, but I could not warm to any of the characters. So, I don't think I'll get that one, but you've prompted me to look at the other Kindle deals, so thanks.

magimedi · 20/06/2015 07:47

I loved the Goldfinch, especially all the stuff in the desert.

I am weird, however!!

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 07:50

Oh gawd, no the desert, I could not stand it Grin
I am weird too, but clearly different-weird!

Did you ever get in to David Mitchell's books? Cloud Atlas, Ghostwritten etc?
That's my kinda weird. And gives me creativity envy….

magimedi · 20/06/2015 08:00

Could not stand Cloud Atlas.

We are certainly differently weird.................

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 08:04

You couldn't stand Cloud Atlas?! I may need to reconsider our MN friendship ShockWinkGrin

Variety is the spice of life.

Where do you stand on Kate Atkinson? Scenes at the Museum etc?

Sorry, I am derailing your thread, aren't I? Blush

magimedi · 20/06/2015 08:09

Loved Behind the Scenes at the Museum, but don't like her Jackson Brodie novels.

How about Catch 22? That book is my nemesis - I can't tell you the times I have started it & have still to get beyond page 60!!

cunchofbunts · 20/06/2015 08:11

Loved The Goldfinch but it took me eight tries before I could finish The Little Friend.

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 08:17

I want to marry Jackson Brodie. Well, maybe not, he's too dysfunction, but I could have an affair with him??

Catch-22 is genius Grin

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 08:17

dysfunctional

magimedi · 20/06/2015 08:20

I adored Wolf Hall................... one of the best books I have ever read. Her prose is just amazing.

OP posts:
wtffgs · 20/06/2015 08:22

I much preferred The Little Friend to Tartt's bestseller The Secret History Smile

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 08:25

Oh, I loved Wolf Hall too - yay, we found common reading ground! Grin

magimedi · 20/06/2015 08:28

Hooray! Must go - off to Brighton for a meet up of MN Vaping Vipers!!

PacificDogwood · 20/06/2015 08:30

Have fun! Smile

Eliza22 · 20/06/2015 13:14

I loved Tarte's The Secret History but couldn't get into The Little Friend at all. I keep looking at it longingly.... As I SHOULD love it. But I just can't drag myself back to it.

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/06/2015 21:25

I thought The Little Friend started well but halfway through it felt as though Tartt had lost all interest and was just finishing the book under sufferance.

prorsum · 20/06/2015 21:25

The beginning of The Little Friend is fantastic, then it changes pace abruptly. I found it worth sticking with though and I like it better than The Secret History, which I loved.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 20/06/2015 21:28

I'm about 200 pages into The Little Friend and struggling. Is it worth finishing?

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/06/2015 21:30

I'd say no but prorsum will probably say yes Grin

prorsum · 20/06/2015 21:31

Imo, yes. I'm a bit worried you haven't been grabbed by the beginning of book though, if you're not enjoying it, dump it.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 20/06/2015 21:34

I like reading it, but then I put it down and realise nothing's happened if that makes sense. I'll probably finish it, I hate not finishing!

Iirc the beginning sets out the characters, Donna could do with a better editor.

MitzyLeFrouf · 20/06/2015 21:42

I've delayed reading The Goldfinch as I'm still judging her for The Little Friend.
