Is a kindle deal of the day at 99p. (Sat June 20th)

It's her second book & I didn't enjoy it very much & many people felt the same.

But, it's so cheap that you might want to give it a go!

Same here MitzyLeFrouf. I thought The Secret History was brilliant, but The Little Friend was unbearably tedious, so I'm not especially interested in picking up The Goldfinch in case it turns out to be in the same vein.

Shock little friend is my favourite book!! my favourite donna tartt book and my favourite book of all time!!

newpup · 26/06/2015 08:51

Just finished The Goldfinch, my first Donna Tartt book. I have mixed feelings about it, loved the first part, hated the desert part and could take or leave the last part back in New York! It never seemed to get going after the desert part and I had no emotional investment in any of the characters :-( Tempted to try another though, maybe The secret history?

I thought I was in the minority liking The Little Friend, chumbler. I would go so far as to say that I liked it better than The Secret History. I found The Goldfinch a tough read, not really interested in any of the characters. Probably the desert bit was the only part of the story that I liked. Didn't particularly like the ending.

Yes, read The Secret History if you haven't. A book I've loved for years.

VolumniaDedlock · 26/06/2015 19:27

i didn't like this at all - by the end I really ddin't care what happend

i LOVED the secret history though - one of my favourite books ever. I quite liked the Goldfinch, but found The Vegas Years a real struggle. Luckily Theo moved back to New York just as i was about to sling it on the charity shop pile.

I loved The Goldfinch and The Secret History but found The Little Friend dull.

BugritAndTidyup · 27/06/2015 12:24

I really liked The Little Friend; I enjoyed the slow pace and all the detail and the characters. It always puzzles me a bit that so few people seem to like it, and it might be due for a reread, in fact.

The Goldfinch is on my (very long) tbr list, so I must read that first.

Creatureofthenight · 27/06/2015 12:28

I love The Secret History. I did sort of enjoy The Little Friend, but found it a bit unsatisfying.

I liked The Little Friend, though I did read it twice before it grew on me. I think it was a bit unfortunate because The Secret History was such a massive hit that everyone was expecting The Secret History II and The Little Friend was a very different kind of book. I thought The Goldfinch was much more like SH, with the Richard/Theo dissolute character, unrequited love and drug-fuelled ennui.
