Hello fellow mumsnetters,
Have you downloaded your copy of "The Girl Who Wouldn't Die" yet? It's free on Amazon this week and is currently #1 in the free Kindle charts. If you like a great page turner in the style of Jo Nesbo and Stieg Larsson, this could be for you.
I don't want to spam the list, here, but I wrote the sodding thing and it's FREE and GREAT and a 5* read, according to reviews. Do fill your boots, ladies. Think of it as my little treat for you. Oh, and there's a heroine who could teach Salander a thing or two about being kickass.
Love the Horrormoanal Woman (Marnie Riches)

Thanks for this, everyone. Happy reading. No, ChippyMinton. I've never made it to any Mumsnet jollies, although I've been knocking around as a Mumsnet blogger for years. Perhaps your recognise my wrinkly mush through that.

Smile You look like a MNetter Wink

Have read first page and am hooked!

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 09:11

Fabulous, ChippyMinton! Hope the rest of the book lives up to your expectations. There are some nice twists and turns in there and a little bit of nookie and violence. Far be it from me to write a quiet thriller! Much as I love Salander, she's still written by men. George McKenzie is a woman's heroine, I think/hope. Let me know what you make of her, won't you?

I will force myself to sit and lounge on the sofa reading this with my pjs on.

The sacrifices I make for mnetters Grin

Thanks for this OP!

CocktailQueen · 20/05/2015 09:17

Well done! Have downloaded it :) Thanks!

Fionajaneblushes · 20/05/2015 09:20

Have downloaded and looking forward to it!

Countess, I know exactly what you mean, I'm far too timid about blowing my own trumpet. Must. Try. Harder.

Horror, I really admire your gung-ho spirit and I will try and be more like you. (Ooh be doo etc). Congratulations on your reviews and your Amazon #1 rating - absolutely bloody brilliant!!!! Well done!

PS. 'Pretend artist'. I love that.

spiderlight · 20/05/2015 09:24

Just downloaded it - it looks really good!

glenthebattleostrich · 20/05/2015 09:25

Ooh, was wondering what to read next. Thanks

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 09:30

Ladies, if we don't blow our own trumpets, who the hell will? I've put in almost 10 years of graft in a bid to get good enough to be published. It's extremely hard emotionally - very difficult when you're a debut and you get the odd 1 star howler back for your book. Imagine reading those with PMT! The therapy's going to take years... But the reviews for "The Girl Who Wouldn't Die" have been overwhelmingly positive so far, and right about now, I feel a bit more comfortable reaching out to readers. There are lots of us on Mumsnet who write and we write to get read. Right?

I downloaded this the other day without knowing it was a mumsnetter's book - it's now been moved to the top of my "to read" pile!!

magimedi · 20/05/2015 09:42

You'll be pleased to hear that your book has just been linked in a chat thread -

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2383354-The-author-who-was-promoting-her-friends-book-and-other-good-reads?

And I have just downloaded it. Really looking forward to starting it later today.

DonttouchthatLarry · 20/05/2015 09:52

got it - thanks! Need to charge my Kindle up now before I can read it Smile

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/05/2015 10:01

Ooh, thank you! Have downloaded and will read next week.

But... how will you make your fortune if you give away your work? Confused

Fionajaneblushes · 20/05/2015 10:10

Magi, that's the lovely trumpet-blowing thread ImperialBlether did about my book!

Horror, I like your style. Will you be my guru?

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 10:19

@BoreOfWhabylon (love the handle): the offer ends just after the weekend and The Girl goes back to 99p. That's why I thought I'd let you all know on here, while it's free. (bit of lady-solidarity) Hopefully, if readers like it and leave nice words on Amazon, when it goes back to the paid chart, it will rise quickly. Also, people are already preordering The Girl Who Broke the Rules - book 2 of the series - on the back of the free offer. Having said that, I need to sell a shitload to make even a modest amount of money. But I have the same publisher as Cally Taylor, who's book, "The Lie" is currently #2 in paid kindle. I think they're hoping, as word travels, the free period will bring its own fruits. In the meantime, I have 3 almost bald tyres on my car. Let's pray it doesn't rain!

We'll all love it so much that we'll buy the next one, BoreofWhabylon. And copies for our friends and family.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/05/2015 10:23

Also if we like it and tweet about it that will drive sales.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/05/2015 10:30

Ah, thanks for the explanation! (love your name too Grin )

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 11:21

Thanks. I'm a slave to my hormones. It seemed fitting. Except a male friend of mine ruined it by pointing out it sounds like horror mo anal, which is less than fortunately. There are some great monikers on here. Loving The Countess of Fitzdotterel. You sound like Icelandic royalty!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/05/2015 11:44

It's from this poem - I fancied being an aristocrat and it was the only one I could think of!

It's funny with reviews and hormones. I've only had one really critical one so far and the day I read it I wasn't bothered, but it lay in wait for me in my brain waiting for the PMT to arrive so it could upset me then!

MarthasHarbour · 20/05/2015 11:50

Boots duly filled Smile

well done - its a massive achievement! Flowers

MollyMaDurga · 20/05/2015 16:18

I'm from Groningen!
Hardly the most known place in the world, so it's funny to see it pop up in your book!

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 17:20

Ha! Yes, MollyMaDurga. I lived in Utrecht and speak Dutch, hence selecting Amsterdam as one of the main locations. I love the place with all its sleaze and grandeur. But of course, ordinary folk come from other, less glamorous, smaller towns, and my tutor at university was from Groningen. I hope I got all the Dutch detail correct.

Great poem, Countess!

OP posts:
MollyMaDurga · 20/05/2015 17:30

Yep, ordinary, that's me.
Ha!

Horrormoanal1 · 20/05/2015 18:48

Noooo! Not you. I'm thinking of Ad, my love interest character!
