Can anyone recommend me some funny books?

I'm on the look out for some good comic fiction (or indeed non-fiction).

Examples of the type of thing I've already got and love:

David Sedaris
Adrian Mole
The Diary of a Nobody
Charlie Brooker
Julian Barnes' A Pedant in the Kitchen

Any ideas anyone? I need something funny as an escape from textbooks!

Funny rather than comic, but Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis.

Ha Ha, was just going to recommend a childrens book 'pooh is that you Bertie' all about a little boy who farts. Then I read your post. [blush)

John Peel - Margrave of the Marshes. Although it will only make you laugh if you did actually like him. Thr first half, written by him before he died, is very entertaining.

I liked Around Ireland With a Fridge

BloodyTenaLady · 26/10/2006 21:52

I think you still might enjoy it but maybe a little too high brow for you in places

VermiciousKnid · 26/10/2006 21:52

by Tony Whatsisface

Molesworth · 26/10/2006 21:52

Anything by Spike Milligan very funny and sometimes a bit harrowing....

JanH · 26/10/2006 22:07

have you tried Bill Bryson, Molesworth?

Molesworth · 26/10/2006 22:08

JanH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE BACK!

I have read Bryson - and he is amusing, but I'm looking for things that will make me laugh out loud (tall order I know, but that's why I listed the things that already do make me laugh out loud in hope someone with same taste would come along!)

Whizzz · 26/10/2006 22:12

Vic Reeves autobiog is very funny - but you have to appreciate his warped sense of humour !

TheDaVinciCod · 26/10/2006 22:12

that book about marley the dog
ive got it to get dfree dellivery

chonky · 26/10/2006 22:13

Love Adrian Mole too - have been an avid follower of his for 23 (??) years.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 22:14

Running with Scissors is that gay survivory sort of chap? I don't remember it that strongly tbh.

Sedaris is my standard recommendation, but I see you've got him. Some David Foster Wallace is pretty funny, but not Infinite Jest, lovely though it is. "Is it Just Me, or is Everything Shit?" is pretty damn funny. Probably out in paperback by now. Oh, and that old Wilt series is pretty good.

I'm sure others will come to me later.

TheDaVinciCod · 26/10/2006 22:15

yes the shit book is VERY funny

marely

TheDaVinciCod · 26/10/2006 22:16

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 22:17

Things My Girlfriend And I Have Argued About, although if you liked the webpage it's a bit repeated ... I didn't like his second book as much.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/10/2006 22:17

Oh, yes, the Toby Young was ok.

chonky · 26/10/2006 22:17

Yep - Toby Stephens book is good.
