I haven't read it, however it got brilliant reviews in sunday paper..... asked hubbie to get it for me altho he wouldn't cos it's only out in hardback (published march 2004) so it was too expensive. Gonna try the library!

There's a review from yesterday's Guardian here .

sassy · 11/04/2004 17:03

Yes, I read it and quite liked it. Not very taxing (so I actually finshed it quite quickly despite DD!) and quite thought-provoking about how society's attitudes towards women and single mums especially has changed over time. Pretty funny too, especially the antics of the oldest character!
My copy was £6.97 from Teco - pretty good for a hardback.

I enjoyed it, also got it at cheap Tesco price.

juniper68 · 15/04/2004 18:19

I like the sound of that, I'll get it at Tesco, thanks for the tip

I am over halfway through this book, I bought it less than 24 hours ago! I haven't read like this since college . . . there is hope for me yet.

flamesparrow · 17/04/2005 16:37

Tis really good

strugstu · 17/04/2005 16:43

i loved it read it one weekend, brought it in tesco paperback for about 4 quid, had to re-read the beginning a couple of times to get used to it swapping between characters, but enjoyed it.

pleaserewind · 18/04/2005 09:56

I found the swapping between characters a bit confusing at times but overall i enjoyed it. The characters were likeable and it kept my interest.

was hoping for some true badness

Libb · 19/04/2005 10:20

finished it this morning and thought the ending was a bit vague - it was still nice to read heavily like that, it has been a while!

lilybird · 20/04/2005 14:44

i started reading it about 2 months ago, cannot get into it, bit heavy going, or is that just me!!

Evesmama · 20/04/2005 14:45

why have messages been withdrawn on this thread??

tamum · 20/04/2005 14:48

I liked it really- the characters were all quite real. Quite a light read, but certainly enjoyable.

Messages have been withdrawn because all robinw's were, I think. Long story!

Enid · 20/04/2005 14:49

robinw! is she back!

bundle · 20/04/2005 14:49

i liked the grandmother, but thought the book a bit "thin". what did happen to robinw, tamum? ..another one i missed the story on?

tamum · 20/04/2005 14:51

Don't panic E, it's an old thread

tamum · 20/04/2005 14:52

Sorry bundle, didn't see you there! I think it was an accumulation of "breastfeeding nazi" offences, wasn't it? There was one spate, and then she came back and it was fairly calm, and then it all started up again.

bundle · 20/04/2005 14:53

oooooooooh
