Just that really.

I fell in love in Zadie Smith's prose, just finished 'On beauty'. In the middle of 'Anna Karenina' now and eyeing up 'A hundred years of solitude' in my handbag.

Interested in books that you would recommend, as this summery weather makes me want to curl up in a hammock and read, read, read..(don't have a hammock just yet so a beanbag has to do for now).

Todays

I adore Swamplandia. Have you read Karen Russells' short story collections? They are as good. I can also recommend Janice Owens 'American Ghost's if you like stories set in Florida. She is an amazing writer.

Re-reading Moon over Soho by Ben Aaronovitch - second book in the Peter Grant series.

Highly recommend the series.

Also just finished The Language of Flowers - a good read.

Southeast,
I couldn't get into The Lemon Grove. I made it halfway then gave up.

I didn't like the main character and found it unbelievable that any mother could do that to a member of her own family - (go after daughter's boyfriend!)

Just finished "The Goldfinch". Awesome! Have read Donna Tartt's other books. What else would anyone recommend in a similar vein?

Other books I have enjoyed have been anything by Rose Tremain, books by Ann Patchett and Sarah Waters. Also Penelope Lively.

Tom Rob Smith's "The Farm"
Loved "Child 44" and "Agent 6", despite the grim settings I find myself sucked right in and hardly aware of time passing til the end of the book!

Just back from holiday and read The Goldfinch, which I really enjoyed, and How to Build a Girl which was fun. I read The Silkworm before I left and enjoyed that too.

Have The Miniaturist next, which I am getting for my birthday.

I'm reading - and loving - Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok.

Just finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, which I thought was utterly brilliant. Clever, moving and well constructed.

I'm reading the new Lisa Jewel - don't like the time-hopping but it's otherwise an easy read. Just read my first Jo Nesbo which I really enjoyed. Have Alistair Campbell's most recent waiting for me.

I felt the same Wips, but I've laughed like a drain at the last 2, this one is shaping up to be good.

I've had a right binge-read this week - love the holidays.

I've done:

The girl with all of the gifts which was fantastic (not what I expected, dystopian)

The house we grew up in which was good.

The 2nd and 3rd Hunger Games books which I've had lined up for ages.

The one plus one which I adored - just a really, really wonderful story.

I currently have two on the go, which is unusual for me. One is Lorrie Moore's collected short stories, which is great, but very long. After a while, they get a bit samey. The other is Hack Attack by Nick Davies, which is the whole story about the tabloids hacking celebrities, paying off policemen etc. It's good but for a story I'm extremely interested in, quite hard work - it's difficult to keep track of who everyone is.
