Just that really.

I fell in love in Zadie Smith's prose, just finished 'On beauty'. In the middle of 'Anna Karenina' now and eyeing up 'A hundred years of solitude' in my handbag.

Interested in books that you would recommend, as this summery weather makes me want to curl up in a hammock and read, read, read..(don't have a hammock just yet so a beanbag has to do for now).

I have the Kite Runner and And The Mountains Echoed, are they worth reading then yes?

MorphineDreams · 29/07/2014 20:47

I have thousands of books on my iphone, I've worked my way through 341 this year so far but it seems I'm skipping the good ones

Halfway through NW by Zadie Smith. Really enjoying it. Got The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer to read on hols.

Can recommend The Deaths by Mark Lawson.

Every summer I try and reread "I Capture the Castle". I must have read it a dozen times by now but I still enjoy it. Its become a bit of a summer ritual. I think I may be of a superstitious nature.

proseccoco - You don't need to manually check the price drops of books in your Kindle wish list. Check out eReaderIQ. Smile

Dreams I loved 'the Kite Runner', but it wasn't my normal kind of book - I was really engrossed in it and at some bits I couldn't read fast enough to see what happened. He is really good at describing things and making you feel that you've been there. Can't wait to get his other 2 books now, but will probably have to wait to the Christmas list Smile

GlaceCherries · 30/07/2014 15:21

Read "Life after life" recently and really did not like it (what was the point? Where was the story going?)

Just finished "the first 15 lives of harry august" and that was great, very gripping.

Have started "the emperor waltz" but can't get into it and may have to return it to the library unfinished.

I've lined up the first Cazalets book as my holiday read.

TodaysNotAGoodDay · 30/07/2014 15:39

Re-reading an oldie, Dean Koontz - Strangers. Almost finished that, then onto Karen Russell - Swamplandia.

Laska42 · 30/07/2014 18:36

The new Cormoran Strike book 'The Silkworm' Robert Galbrith/JK Rowling has just been reduced to £1.99 on Amazon Kindle* Probably only for the rest of today

Orangeisthenewbanana · 30/07/2014 18:42

I'm reading Churchill's Wizards, funnily enough on a recommendation from another MN thread Grin
Fascinating and shocking equally, and quite randomly topical with the centenary of WWI recently.

StillWearingOddSocks · 30/07/2014 18:50

Stephen Dunne - the unquiet grave

Dunne is from Derbyshire & one of my 2014 discoveries!

Don't know if there's any other crime thriller affecinados on here...Smile

stihlhere · 30/07/2014 19:15

whotheduckisalice · 30/07/2014 19:19

The Fear Index.

whotheduckisalice · 30/07/2014 19:20

And Anna Karenina (long term project)

DuchessofMalfi · 30/07/2014 19:22

Prophecy by S J Parris. Read Heresy, the first in series recently and enjoyed, although a little bloodthirsty in places.

Enb76 · 30/07/2014 19:29

Just finished The Girl with all The Gifts (M J Carey) and am now re-reading I, Claudius (Robert Graves).

My almost 6 year old is reading Twist of Gold (Michael Morpurgo)

BumgrapesofWrath · 30/07/2014 19:36

Darkmans by Nicola Barker. Absolutely excellent book!

Cherrypi · 30/07/2014 19:38

I'm halfway through an electronic pile of books including the obligatory goldfinch. The main three I'm reading are The Hundred year old man..., The little stranger by Sarah Waters and The Sportswriter by Richard Ford.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 30/07/2014 19:47

Just finished Battle Royale (I.e the original Hunger Games) Was really good and I immediately watched the film on Netflix and enjoyed that too Grin

MorphineDreams · 30/07/2014 20:00

Batter Royale is awesome

MorphineDreams · 30/07/2014 20:00

Battle ever.

Batter Royale sounds like some scottish delight

minsmum · 30/07/2014 20:11

Just finished Eenie Meenie by M J Arlidge and have the 4th game of Thrones, heresy and the Joy Fowler book on the go. I can't seem to settle with any of them at the moment.
