Picture an Easter weekend when tragedy strikes; a tragedy so unexpected - so devastating - that no one can talk about it.

We're giving away 50 copies of The House We Grew Up In by Top Ten bestselling author Lisa Jewell, who joined us for a Q&A to talk about her novel The Making of Us and writing career back in 2012. Described by Jojo Moyes as 'Clever, intelligent, and believable on a subject few of us really understand', The House We Grew Up In follows the unforgettable story of a family with a secret at its core.

Apply for a free copy here, we will post on the thread once all the copies have gone. Please come back here and tell us what you thought of the book, or you can post a review.

To celebrate the release of the hardback last year, we launched a competition where we asked you to post pictures of the house where you grew up. Check out our gallery of the best photos here.

Fingers crossed!

Xenadog · 02/06/2014 16:59

Ooh I hope I get one!

Itsfab · 02/06/2014 21:25

Just applied. Thank you very much.

Have recently read a book with much trumpeted twists in the middle and end and I was a bit Hmm as missed one completely and then the book just fizzled out in the end. This has happened with a few books I have read. I really wish authors would have as strong an ending as beginning.

I hope Lisa's tragedy book lives up to the hype.

Thank you FlowersCake.

Finished my copy of the house we grew up in and wow, what a read. It is clever, sad and a very well written story.

Top marks to jewell for spinning out a story of a bizarre family and making it so believable.

Here is a detailed review of the book. Thanks again, Mumsnet!

Received my copy - thanks. Just finished the last book I was reading so looking forward to getting started.

Keepcalmanddrinkwine · 23/06/2014 21:42

I finished my copy thanks to the delays at Paddington yesterday. I'm so glad I had it with me. What an amazing read, the first book by Lisa Jewel I have read but it won't be the last. I don't want to give anything away other than the fact it is a really well written story that made me cry on the train. I'll post a review shortly.
