I read the Weirdstone of Brisingamen and the Moon of Gomrath by Alan Garner when I was 9/10 and loved them (magic and wizards etc). Tried to read them to my daughters but they werent interested so I gave up after a couple of chapters.

Agree Tiger who came to tea is great -love the audio tape of it too. And the Faraway Tree. Also for little ones the Dog that Dug - dh loves to read that out loud and also that book with the animals in it (cant remember the name) but its all about teh zoo sending inappropriate pets until you get a puppy at the end.

pretty much anything by roald dahl, but especially danny champion of the world and james and the giant peach. also - one about a wierd and quite scary nanny - can't remember the name but loved it as a kid.

I still love the "guess how much I love you" book with the father and baby rabbit. My DD still has it on her bookshelf and she's eleven. I also have a hilarious book called "how are you peeling?" its made up of photographs of fruits and vegetables that have been cleverly made to look like they are alive with faces and the best expressions, and the book is all about different emotions, its excellenr, another one that she still has on her bookshelf, I get it out when I need cheering up. I also love to read DD's Jaqueline Wilson books, I read "the bed and breakfast star" in the school hols and it actually made me cry I'm 35 but still love a great girly story.

Bit of a mish-mash actually, Franny&Zooey. I don't have Players & The Rebels - am waiting for the GGB reissue - and Marlows & The Traitor is an (authorised) photocopy. And I won't be buying at ABE prices either.

I love "we're going on a bear hunt" - lots of fun words and images and it's really sad at the end when the bear is walking away with his shoulders down, like he only wanted to play...
