I've just been reading "Can't you sleep, Little Bear" to dd's and I nearly cried! Silly sentimental moment about giving your children the moon!

What innocuous(sp!) children's books have had you blubbing?

I bought a Mick Inkpen one about a lost toy, flicked through it before reading to DS and had to put it away because it made me cry Blush.

Whizzz · 03/05/2006 20:49

Just remembered the title - it was called 'Nothing'

snowleopard · 03/05/2006 20:52

Oh god, all of them. I can't read "Peepo" without floods of tears. No Matter What is the same. We've got one really innocuous one called "Look out it's the wolf" or something and I cried reading it in the blimming shop! I'm hopeless...

Dogger makes me cry (well nearly).

Also was looking at Annie Rose is my little sister and the end of that made me well up.

Surfermum · 03/05/2006 20:54

Dogger for me too!

oooh yes, pc "because she's my little sister and I'm her big brother..."

There are 2 years ish between ds (2.5) and dd (10 months), and ds is always pointing out to me the things dd does that are like annie rose.

thats going to be the book i cry over when I'm rocking myself to sleep in a nursing home.

Filyjonk · 03/05/2006 21:01

but, tbh, charlie and lola makes me cry. anything demonstrating the tiniest hint that siblings sometimes don't hate each other, really.

PiccadillyCircus · 03/05/2006 21:06

DS is 2.5 and DD is 7 months so I have Alfie and Annie Rose images :)

foxinsocks · 03/05/2006 21:07

the one where Mog (the cat) dies - I had to pinch myself while I was reading and chant 'it's only a book' in my head to stop myself crying!

cod · 03/05/2006 21:08

dogger bloody awful so saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

MamaG · 03/05/2006 21:08

What is dogger?

PiccadillyCircus · 03/05/2006 21:09

DS is very into Dogger at the moment - it's one of his bedtime stories nearly every night.

jamsam · 03/05/2006 21:10

my vote goes to mog too...very hard to read at the moment(just lost my dad), but will always be hard after mt ds's found thier beloved cat a few years ago, he was ery old to be fair.

I quite like dogger - both my kids always clutch their favourite toys when we read it!

jamsam, that's so sad Sad

doobydoo · 03/05/2006 21:19

Laura's Star and I Love You Just The Way You Are[part of a series about Bartholomew Bear].and some of the others on here...boo hoo

TwoIfBySea · 03/05/2006 21:28

No Matter What by Debi Gliori (sp?) I got it first from the library and then ended up buying it. It really is sweet and for some reason I always get a catch in my throat on the last page!

Oh yes, and Goodbye Mog is sad, I loved Mog when I was little, have passed down my Mog books to dts and when I saw that I was more upset than they were!

We had one that was about a mum that gave lots of cuddles to her son as he was growing up, until at the end the mum was an old lady and the grown up son, came in and picked her up and gave her a cuddle. Can't remember what it's called though, that is really going to bug me now.
